Orcs must die! is a game sold on steam for $15 dollars that is another pretty easy to play defense game where you are a war mage and have to build different traps and tricks to fight waves of enemies. In this game though the enemies are…yep you guessed it, Orcs. You have different maps with different amounts of waves of orcs that you have to defend against. In the beginning it is not very hard to stop them, with just a couple traps you will have the levels pretty much done. After completing each mission you get a steam achievement so any of your friends can track your progress on the game and you can also unlock a new trap to set for the next area you have to defend. Also depending on how many points you get during the game, you get skulls that you can use to unlock upgraded traps so you can do more damage or keep enemies stuck for longer. As for the different kinds of traps you have available you start off with a tar pit that basically slows down any orcs while they walk over it, there is also a spike strip that which basically has spikes rise out of the ground and do damage to enemies that are over it at the time. The only down side to them is that it has a cool down time so it takes a minute before it can attack again. Upgrades will make them more powerful and attack sooner.
Now my favorite defense trap that you can set up is the wall of arrows. With these whenever an enemy goes by that wall they get shot up. I usually set tar pits and walls of arrows so that the enemies go slow and get shot by the walls. There are more unlocks as you go but with even with the basic towers you can pretty much defend against anything for the first few rounds. They also start giving you archers, and other units with crossbows and spears that can shoot from behind your wall of defense. I thought that was pretty cool to add to the game. The crossbow is nice because it has two different attacks with each mouse click. But there are orcs that come at you with arrows of their own. In this case it is better to attack with a spear. This game is pretty easy to play and is a lot of fun. It is a lot like a game I played recently called dungeon defenders except this one is all offline. This helps for the gamer that doesn’t exactly have the best Internet connection or maybe that person that just doesn’t want to play online. Also this game would be a great gift for someone during the holidays with steam since they make it easy for you to gift to someone. There is even a demo available on steam that you can get to try the game out and get a feel for it.
The game has a Meta score on steam of 83 and if you are not familiar with Meta scores it’s basically an all out score from people who score it from 1 to 100 and an 83 is not a bad score at all. It also is enabled to work with your windows controller and that will probably make this game much easier to play with all of your buttons right there for you. The game is also available on Xbox 360 just in case you don’t have a PC. The system requirements for the game are only a dual core processor and 5 GBs space on your hard drive and 2 GBs of memory. Not very intensive and it runs on my laptop just fine.
There are also two DLC packs available. There is the lost adventures pack that you can buy for $3.99 that gives you five new levels and two new enemy rewards and steam achievements for the DLC. And the other DLC comes with five new fortresses (extra maps) that you can defend against waves of orcs. So for an easy to play game that won’t make you feel like you spent an arm and a leg to get Orcs Must Die! is a good choice if you are into these kinds of strategy games.
