This is the much anticipated 8 core processor from AMD. You’d think with all the delays that this processor would be totally ready for Prime Time. Sadly, this isn’t the case. This processor is actually a step backwards in many respects from AMD’s Phenom II processors. In our testing we were able to conclude that the 8120 wasn’t faster than either the Intel i5 2500K or AMD’s Phenom II 1090T. This is pretty sad considering all of the effort that AMD put into this new architecture. This was supposed to be AMD’s attempt to take the performance crown away from Intel. It looks like AMD will have to go back to the drawing board and try again. If you were waiting on these processors to come out and are still using a Phenom II, I highly suggest that you hang on to it for now.
