Hands-on with Apple’s new EarPods

Along side a new iPhone 5, 4-inch iPod Touch & redesigned iPod Nano, Apple launched a complete redesign of those little white earbuds that we’ve all grown to hate. Along with a new look they’ve also got a new name – EarPods. Gone is the circular design and tinny sound of the old earbuds, we now have an oval design that may look awkward at first glance but much to my surprise actually fit extremely well and stayed in place even with more than normal head movement.

The sound was also surprisingly decent and a huge improvement to the previous headset. Bass was present but not overpowering and there was a nice balance of midrange which resulted in a pretty smooth sound. As much as I wanted to not like these, I couldn’t. For $30 and the fact that they come with a carrying case, inline controls for iPod control and a microphone for phonecalls, Apple did an excellent job and these did not disappoint.
