Portable gaming is becoming one of the largest markets in today’s global economy and many people have jumped on the bandwagon in an effort to make profit in this industry. Gaming on a phone offers the ultimate in portability, but lack a big enough screen or ability to use anything, but the phone to control it does have its limitations.  So if you want real portability, but don’t want to actually have to tote around a PC what’s a gamer to do? It has recently been leaked that Microsoft has confirmed that they are getting ready to manufacture 7-inch tablet that can go toe to toe with other leading gaming consoles such as the PlayStation Vita and the Wii U tablet controller.

The Verge who first released this information claim the currently the Xbox surface is only in its “Initial hardware planning” stage and that most likely it will contain a “custom arm processor” and “high-bandwidth memory. Also inside sources have also stated the leaked details of the Xbox surface form June are apparently accurate and are no longer just rumors. So we now know that the Xbox Tablet will feature a 1280X720 HD display an SD card reader and the standard WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity seen on other tablets. The 7-Inch Xbox Tablet will most likely run a custom version of Windows 8, probably a hybrid version of their software they are using on the current versions of the Windows phone that uses a tiles style interface.

When one thinks of gaming the obvious next question is, what types of games will be available for the device in question. Sony and Nintendo have a strong presence in the gaming market and quite a few titles so will the Xbox Tablet have games exclusive for its own platform? Another thing that brings questions is just what will differentiate the Xbox Tablet from the surface or will it be simply a second display for the Xbox 720 Console? The surface already has a SmartGlass app that allows the Xbox 360 to use the tablet as a second display. I personally hope that it takes on a path that tries to port over as many game titles as possible and that the “Fun” aspect be taken into account over fancy graphics something I feel the PC industry has to suffer with. Good looks only go so far comedy and fun make for a more lasting gaming experience.

Windows 8 is trying really to make its push onto the consumer market it all sort of flavors, be it Desktop, Windows Phone 8 or the upcoming Xbox 720 (Or Whatever Its named) Microsoft has a chance to gain a great foothold in the Tablet market if they focus their attentions to the right details and not stray into strange waters.  Will having all these various Windows version be confusing to the end-user? That will have to bee seen as the market gets flooded with new products, but in this time junction it’s all still just speculation. As far as pricing goes it seems like the new Xbox Tablet will be hitting the shelves at around $150.00 US just a little cheaper than the Surface. What exact flavor of Windows we will see at launch time, but don’t expect the new Xbox Tablet to be a standalone gaming platform as it will most certainly be an extension of current and upcoming Microsoft consoles. Thanks for reading for now, all we can do is hope for the best and wait.
