The iPhone 5 launch is upon us and we got our hands on a shiny new iPhone 5 for your viewing pleasure. As per usual Apple delivers with a minimalist, clean packaging design with a top shot of the iPhone, Apple logo and iPhone 5 stamping on the side of the box.

We’re taking a look at the white model and initially I was a little hesitant to grab the white iPhone 5 because I wasn’t sure how the two-tone design would look in person but after picking it up and getting a first hand look, I think it looks gorgeous. If you’re a previous iPhone owner the first thing you’ll notice when picking up the new iPhone 5 is how light it is. Seriously, it almost feels too light but yet it feels incredibly solid at the same time.

Aside from the iPhone , there’s a few goodies inside the box.

  • Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic
  • Lightning to USB Cable
  • USB Power Adapter
  • Documentation

One of the biggest changes to the iPhone 5 aside from the bigger screen is the removal of the old 30-pin connector and the introduction of the new lightning connector. As of yet it doesn’t add any additional functionality but is completely digital thus allowing ease of use because it doesn’t matter how you plug in the cable, it just fits. The change caused a little uproar from fans because of the need for an adapter which I can understand but it had to change eventually and hopefully with time we’ll see some cool uses out of the port.

After spending some time with the phone you can’t disagree with it’s beauty or speed. A quick Geekbench test resulted in a score of 1652 which is more than double it’s predecessor the iPhone 4S. The 4-inch 1136 x 640 display is a welcome addition and while it’s not groundbreaking, it looks fantastic and is still one of the best mobile displays on the market. If you’re bored with iOS you may want to look towards the Galaxy S3 from Samsung or the Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but if you’re looking to pick up a new iPhone 5 it won’t dissapoint. With the addition of LTE, improved camera, A6 chip and the overall design, the iPhone 5 is sure to excel in the smartphone market yet again. Thanks for reading and enjoy the pics below!
