EverQuest II is another free to play game available on steam. I was browsing through what they had available for free to play games and saw this game with a picture of a dragon so I thought it might be pretty fun. Downloaded and installed the game and when you first launch it there is a separate launcher that pops up and you have to let it check all the files that you already downloaded from steam. This takes a little while but after it does that and installs itself, you set up an account.

Now when you’re creating your character there is a lot of different options for characters, the sad part is that you cannot choose most of them. The Races are divided up by good, evil and neutral. Much like a game of dungeons and dragons. For the free-to-play you only have the neutral races available and there is not much there. Once you have chosen what race your character is going to be you then have to choose your powers. So basically you can fight with a sword and fist or you could be a mage. They really give you a lot of options when it comes down to your fighting class. Now after you configured that there is a little bit of customization to your character like color, ear size, and shape of your characters features. Once you finish your character you choose what part of the world you’re going to start off in and then you’re in the game.

It looks and feels a lot like world of war craft except you don’t have to pay the monthly fee for a game that you have already purchased. Once you get into the world you find various players there online. You can have your friends join you to complete quests just like world of war craft. And you will level up faster. Also along the bottom is where you macro your keys. That is basically setting up all your attacks to be buttons along the keyboard anywhere from 1 to 9 can be different spells or attacks depending on what class you select. Also in the beginning there is a fairy that tells you about harvesting stuff around the world. You can collect items from almost any plant and fallen tree in the world. Later on you can use the item or you can sell it to make a little bit of gold for yourself. If you don’t feel like running around randomly killing enemies and gaining xp you can find certain people and get quests. One of the first quests is where you have to find a certain kind of creature and kill so many of them which I’m sure in a game like this that is what most of your quests are going to be.

The difficult part with games like this is you have to learn the controls and how to configure your map to tell you where those enemies are. Because you can run around for days looking for the creatures and never find them. But if you use your minimap you can select a target for some quests. Pretty much only when you are finding a person but it draws out a line for you to get there kind of how Fable shows you the path to your current quest. Honestly I don’t like games like these. It is exactly like world of war craft and is an all age’s game. So it has a little kid game feel to it. And there really is not much to it. It’s really basic and easy to play. I like to have a lot of action going on at all times, so this game is kind of slow and it never really feels like I’m going anywhere. But if you have a kid that likes to play games like world of war craft and you have a basic PC, which doesn’t even have to have that great of hardware inside, this game should still run just fine. But I probably won’t be playing this game again after the review, it’s just too much like world of war craft and I have to say I absolutely hate that game, so of course I am not going to be a big fan of this game. Although this is a free game available on steam, there is a lot of other games available on steam for free. I just finished up a review on APB Reloaded and that game was actually a lot of fun. There is a review on this site about it. I am also going to be bringing you reviews about all the other free to play games that steam has made available on their cloud servers. So you might as well give it a shot if you like world of war craft because you might just like this game and not have to pay monthly for your world of war craft subscription. And if you don’t like this game then, sorry, move on to the next free game on steam.
