Google Keep Review – Worth Jumping Into?

Google, this week, released their new note-taking app called Google Keep. Keep is a basic, straight-to-the-point note taking app that is made for just that, note taking. It has 4 options to save your notes, a traditional written note, a checklist, voice recording and photo taken note. You can also search up specific notes without even needing to place tags with that note.

The design is really simple and straight to the point just how Google likes it. Font styles, design layout, icons, and organization is really something unique and nice to look at, say compared to Evernote. From what I’ve seen, you can only access Google Keep from the Android app or the web based application. At first it took me a while to find the web-based portion due to Google not even showing Google Keep as a search result in their own search engine, which is ridiculous. You won’t even find the application on the drop down menu on the Google home menu! In order to access it you must add a “/keep” extension to the Google Drive web address which will instinctively be followed by a bookmark.

The app interface itself is enough for me to make the switch from Evernote to Keep. Simply because Evernote’s design and user friendliness is just outright bland and boring. Personally, I feel the opposite of pleasure when I log into my Evernote. There’s buttons I never even press, drop down menu’s I always end up clicking and notes I don’t enjoy writing. Such a silly thing to matter to someone but is still, in-itself, important if you take notes frequently like I do.

Like Evernote, Keep saves all your notes in the Drive as soon as their written and can be accessed anywhere. You can also color coordinate the whole note itself to prioritize by category or importance I assume. Even the color on the notes itself is really enjoyable to look it. You can also delete or archive a note and change how you scroll through your notes with a grid/list view. Those options are both available on the web and mobile versions.

I know some will say that this isn’t even in the same ballpark as Evernote, but it’s definitely on it’s way. As soon as you start writing in Keep, everything is being saved no matter if you forget to press the done button or not (in the web app that is). Also does everything any other note taking app can do and looks good while doing it.

I’m making the switch even though Google has yet to release a native desktop app yet. This is app is definitely worth bookmarking. Try it out for yourself and compare and see how you like it. As Elric mentioned in a recent video, I’m Robert Gonzalez, the new guy at Tech Of Tomorrow and I would love to have some conversation and interaction with you guys so let me know what you guys think of this application with a comment down below!
