TOT iPhone 5S Rumors

We’ve barely entered 2013 and already the next generation iPhone rumors are heavily floating around. According to WSJ, Apple recently cut iPhone 5 screen orders due ‘weak demand’ but Street Insider noted that Apple may be cutting down on iPhone 5 screen orders not because of weak demand but they are gearing up to set production on the ‘iPhone 5S’ in March to be ready for a June/July 2013 launch. Amongst the many speculated features floating around, the one that is most appealing is the talks of a bigger  4.8″ Retina IGZO display, which would not only ramp up the pixel density but also conserve battery life due to better energy efficiency.

Given Apple’s track record and tendency to milk major updates, I don’t think we’ll see a bigger form factor iPhone until 2014 but we’ll have to wait and see. What does make sense to me is the idea of the next gen iPhone launching in multiple colors like we saw with the 5th generation iPod Touch which did very well. There’s also talks of improved battery life which is almost a must at this point, just because smartphone battery technology just isn’t quite there yet. Lastly we can expect to see a much improved camera, possibly in the 10-12 megapixel range and NFC technology which we thought was coming to the iPhone 5. Regardless of any new hardware, it won’t matter the least bit unless Apple gives iOS a much needed overhaul which at this point has become very stale and to me is Apple’s weak point in the iPhone lineup.
