Battlefield 4 PS4 Graphics Are “Lacking”

Last week’s Gamescon gave members of the industry a chance to get a better look at a lot of the big titles we’ve been looking forward to this coming Holiday season, and undeniably one of the most anticipated is Dice’s Battlefield 4.

Battlefield has been a long time favorite series of PC FPS gamers, and the arrival of BF3 to both PC and console opened up that audience all the more, with it’s combination of great graphics, vehicular combat, and gigantic maps…on PC at least.

With the soon release of next gen consoles, many are hoping to see the current gap in performance between PC and Console to close up, and Battlefield 4 stands to be one of the largest titles to help demonstrate just how the two mediums can compete.

Well at this year’s Gamescon, people were finally given a chance to try the BF4 experience not just on PC as we’ve seen at other recent conventions like E3, but also on PS4. Reports have been coming out however that sadly this version featured none of the thing’s we were hoping to see, including a limited 16 player domination game with no vehicles, which while that may still be a fun mode to play, doesn’t exactly inspire the greatest hope in seeing Battlefield’s signature gigantic war torn landscapes with up to 64 players.

Reports have also said that what’s been seen in the demo is noticeably lacking in comparison visual wise to what we’ve seen on high power PC’s thus far, including weaker textures in the environments, and a less detail on guns and special effects like the destructive environments.

Now of course this was just a demo being played by the press, and thus it stands to reason that this is not the finished product and is simply a result of a simple rushed port of a demo to have something out for the show floor. We’ll just have to sit and wait till the game’s official release on Oct 28th to really see how the two versions compare.

I like how people say that consoles have better graphics, they have no idea what they’re missing on PC’S.

    • marclar

Shhhhhh. Let it stay that way. We don’t need idiots on PC. There’s load of them already. We don’t need more of them. :)

      • erodz1892

Let everyone jump in the bandwagon!! and forget this console crap thats overrated we need more PC users !

        • ptnetworx australia

I agree, We need more PC users. That way Developers will start making more Console titles on PC.
They don’t realize that we are the real gamers. besides that why pay $100+ on a game for PS or Xbox when your paying for the Time and Effort that the developers put in to the game, And you cant even take advantage of their work on a Consol. Its a waste of money. Just like buying a Super Car to drive in School Zones….

          • marclar

Trust me yo guys you don’t want those idiots over to the PC. What’s the game worth when idiots overpopulate it? Imagine COD players roll over to the PC. I hope that never happens.
They will whine and bitch all the time how games are super hard and how this how that and than PC gaming will be ruined!

          • Juan

A lot of PC games are very easy and they get easier over the time. Also, there are CoD players on PC.

          • James Edmonds

            Have you ever tried Homeworld?
Hardest game i’ve ever played. And i’ve been playing PC since i was old enough to use a computer.

          • Nicholas Morici

You are such a Rtard, jesus christ.

There are quite a bit COD players on PC.

All competitive FPS gamers know what COD4 Promod PC is…unless you are some random public match player.

      • Ian McConvey

Rather have devs working solidly on PC games rather than us suffering console ports. If consoles didnt exist all the effort from the devs would go into PC development. Its easy to ignore the ”idiots”. Its not easy however to convince more devs to work exclusively on PC titles.

      • Avenged Sevenfold

Well, some people that play on consoles aren’t idiots, they just can’t afford a gaming computer, it’s impossible to quit console gaming, sell the console for $400 and build a complete $400 gaming computer with an operating system and peripherals. So I don’t blame them, but people that have tons of money and buy consoles, what the hell? Especially those people that buy Mac’s.

Something I don’t see a lot of people mention is that the devs are working on new hardware for consoles. If you look at launch titles for the Xbox 360 and PS3, graphically, they come no where close to where current games are at. A perfect example is Uncharted 1, and The Last of Us. One game from the beginning of the consoles life cycle, and one from the end. If you put those two games side by side, The Last of Us destroys anything that Uncharted 1 could produce. My point is simply that launch titles for next gen consoles are not going to look as great as something that will be made a few years after the console has been released simply because at this point in time, they devs are not as experienced working with the hardware on the PS4, and Xbox One.

    • marclar

Weeeeellll yeaaaah no. Devs are quite experienced because next gen consoles are PCs in one word. They already know how to do stuff and the thing is consoles are weaker already than good pcs nowadays and that’s the reason why it sucks.
Yeah graphics on consoles will look better towards the end cycle of the hext gen consoles but it still won’t look near as good as it will on a PC. :)

    • Marcus Barnett

Things of this nature was only meaningful before the way consoles was built wasn’t damn near a microatx desktop mid tier gaming PC. Back when all of the hardware was so original to each console it took this long to learn it. That’s not the case anymore with Xboxone or PS4 they are very much just mid class gaming PC’s now even using x86 architecture like a PC.

  • u.k

i think the feel of the game they are trying to get across to make up for not so good graphics as pc is the idea of the closer stuff is ,the clearer it looks, as seen here, the hand is quiet clear but the tree straight ahead is a little blurry. though this is just a personal idea

  • Devlyn Shay Papa

battlefield will always look crap on consoles because they dont even care about consoles, look at bf3 and dice said that it will look better than the last. that was a joke because i reckon bfbc2 looked better on ps3 than bf3 on ps3. they will and always make bad ports (bfbc does not count as a port as it was console exclusive)

  • calical26

consoles user’s are just so dumb they dont know or care about graphics or how the game looks on pc we get the real copy of the game us pc user’s bet the full game console they have to down size it to fit on the console that means you get a lot of stuff taking out of the game console are a waste of money price of a console is a high end graphic card i see my graphic card as a console check out come game play on my you tube calical26

    • CatDealer89

I hope if they release gta5 on PC, That it wont look like some Crappy Sketch cartoon like Graphics, hope they utilize all the awesome lighting and shadowing effects and details that PC is known for.

  • Miguel Borja

“limited 16 player domination game with no vehicles” Sorry i saw some boats in the game lol? I didn’t get the point the first time.

  • John Lancaster

Well, psh! Duh it’s not as good.

  • Ian McConvey

Surely the console kids cant expect their game to look as good as it does on a PC… regardless of what tech is inside the PS4. But naturally Sony and Microsoft arent going to reveal this info to the consumers.

    • James Edmonds

Oh they do, they do indeed.

  • Pete

    Luckily, graphics does not matter.

    • Ryan BurnsRed

Yet is one of the first things console players talk about when a new generation is released. Ironic huh?

  • Josh Peet

I hate IGN video always pixelated but I always watch them anyways. I still think PS4 might be a little more difficult to develop for it since it is sharing gddr5, I just think it might be deviating from being like a pc than xbone. Xbone is more like a pc but once the dev’s learn the curve you’ll pry see better graphics on the PS4. just like the last gen console. I think they just should have had both gddr5 and ddr3 in both instead of leaching resources. I see no difference in the graphics for either system. But i’m still a PC lover!

  • LOL

all games are develop on pc so how can console be far more superior

I think I saw the water burning at 1:45. Or was it just me.
