When Apple showed off its latest Haswell equipped MacBook Airs at WWDC 2013, they touted new processors, better battery life and price points but didn’t mention that these things are blazing fast in the storage department.

As most of you know, SATA III SSDs are some of the fastest on the market but tap out at around 600MB/s because of SATA III’s limitations. Thanks to PCIe based storage, the new Airs are able to achieve speeds of 700+ MB/s in the read department and over 650+MB/s in the write department. It should also be noted that these PCIe SSDs are what’s intended to go right into the redesigned Mac Pro which was touted to feature speeds of over 1GB/s.

As we’ve seen with our initial Haswell review, there isn’t a whole lot of performance gain processing wise but with Intel’s new power efficiency benefits, the main advantage of the new Airs is battery life. It’ll also be interesting to see how the integrated graphics play a part in the new MacBook Air, but we’ll be sure to test that out once we can get our hands on one.
