PC is “Far Superior” to Consoles, Says NVIDIA

Many people face the dilemma of should I choose a PC or a console and the debate has been raging on for years now. NVIDIA wants the argument to stop and for us all to flock to the PC banner and forget those pesky kiddy consoles. Matt Wright makes the true statement that no console can hold its own against a good PC and that PCs are the superior platform, well no kidding Matt, I think we all know that is a no brainer. The thing is NVIDIA this time around was left out in the cold and only AMD made offerings in the console environment so its no surprise to see NVIDIA waving that flag around even though its moot point that everyone already has accepted.

I personally have a console, a PS3 in fact, but I rarely game on it and more use it as my media center to watch Netflix, Amazon etc on that do any real gaming. I am not against console gaming it just has never really been my favorite platform since the introduction of the PC and the games that came with that rush. Console gamers seem to be a different breed than the PC user as well, many of them are of the younger generation where finance is a bigger issues than those older and with jobs and yes more cash flow. A console is a one buy shot, no upgrades to the hardware and only Firmware updates to be concerned about, but a PC can be an ever going process as you make it better and change things around on the inside.

NVIDIA obviously wants you to buy a PC and leave your console to collect dust, but for those already locked into a console that may be a hard sell. In an interview Mr. Wright was heard saying this: “We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles. Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC. We want to make PC gaming as simple as possible and we think that it’s already becoming much more relevant and appealing to casual gamers.” So where do you stand in all this? Are you a PC maniac or do you still like and use a console based gaming system? There is a divide, but it is not a great one as heart gamers are all just people looking for an escape and fun time. If NVIDIA can help bring lower priced PCs to the market though, that will most certainly get casual gamers more involved and interested in getting in the game.       Mantle and HSA (from what I can see so far) are going to be pretty much required in order for your games/software to compete within the next few years.

        Mantle is software coding, not so much dealing with architecture. As stated in many press releases, mantle is Amds answer to Microsoft’s lazy innovation towards directx. It by passes directx and creates a closer link between games and hardware. It could be adopted by nVidia or they could create their own (or maybe like the gtx780ti, they have one their working on already but just didnt want to bring it to light just yet.)

        PhysX is a laggy piece of crap that’s included in 2 games. Everyone that’s not an NVidia partner just uses OpenCL.
        
        Mantle is an open API that brings nearly 20% performance boosts to the games that are built with it and it’s already in the pipeline for dozens of titles.

I tried the PS3 and i really suck at aiming and moving properly with the analog and i’m a PC gamer with the trusty mouse and keyboard. Gotta give credit to the people who controls as precise as a PC would do.

    They only started lowering prices after AMD released their performance parts at reasonable prices. Taking advantage of their performance lead to charge USD1,000 for Titan cards that were supposed to be last-gen left a bitter after taste. My upgrade from the my aging GTX570 will be the R9 290. We should vote with our wallets.

  Its been stated many times that before AMDs recent grapics launch that Nvidia has been on cruise control when it comes to the consumer market graphics department. Quite possibly they may only kick back into gear when the full potential of mantle is realized. (this is validated by their response of gtx 780ti and upcoming gtx 780ti 6 gig skew from EVGA)

    The Government is who went to AMD and wanted a more efficient processor created, they came up with the APU. Nvidia’s Tegra or Intel’s graphics were so far behind and Nvidia’s excuse was “Consoles aren’t profitable” yet they didn’t even have the hardware to compete yet. AMD turned a profit from a portion of the console manufacturing before they even released them.
    
    Nvidia touts PC is the Elite and that they need to bring an affordable PC to market, but the only ones doing that are Valve. Nvidia is still charging a premium for their hardware and releasing stupid stuff like the soon to be Titan Refresh. lol Their marketing is senseless and their Ego is too big for their own good and will come back to bite them in the ass. It has already started with Linux’s founder. I’m all about PC, but Nvidia needs to get their heads out of their asses.

When have you ever seen 200-700 consoles in 1 building all networked together? NEVER! Steam has more concurrent users and active accounts than PSN & Xbox Live combined and just added another MILLION in the past month due to people not buying into this gens console crap.

Console gaming only has two real pros, exclusive titles and “friends”. PC gaming is cheaper in the long run, you get higher framerates and resolutions, its 100% an open platform to hardware, you can play it on your couch or TV, the list of pros goes on and on. People that QQ hackers on PC need to look at Cod4 and MW2 on the 360 then look at CoD4 and MW2(mod for dedicated servers) on the PC. On Cod4 on the PC I never run into hackers, but I do on my consoles.

On steam, Far Cry 3, Witcher 2, Metro Last Light, and Batman, Borderlands 2 Arhkam City with all the DLC, all coated 7 bucks. That’s around 40 bucks for 5 triple A games. On console, it would be over 100 bucks for lower framerates and resolutions.

The issue, is the intial cost. Its around a 1k, and many people flat out can’t afford that(unless you’re getting an xboxone with a few games and a few controllers plus Xbox live). Once you get past the fee, you’re golden.

  One thing i would like to point out. Cod4 is full of hackers, Punk buster is useless. In stock cod4 there is blatant aim botters and wallhackers. There will also be lots of aim assisters which are much harder to spot until you get alot better at the game.
  p.s. i recommend you try some cod4 promod. Basically a mod that balances the game for competitive play. Really really good mod. Generally less hackers, although there are plenty of wh’s and aim assists.

  Initial cost is not 1k, it’s whatever you need to do what you want to do. I built a PC last Christmas for my daughter for $450 that is as good or better than the new consoles. Do your homework, I’m tired of hearing the same old BS line that PCs cost so much. it’s Bullshit these days. Valves Steam Machine by iBUYPOWER, equipped with better specs than the new Consoles is priced at $499. So we can just stop with the “initial cost” thing or “more expensive” knowing the games are dirt cheap in comparison and also always compatible one way or another.

I like XBL, I got addicted to halo, they were the best at standardizing the fps experience… I know there is unreal out there, but I think halo along with COD is a sport. I do not want to give up the exclusives even though I own a PC. I want to play HALO. Halo has a beautiful game… People have been married on Halo. So why am I a different breed for liking a game that is not made very often on the PC, and when it is MS fracks up the registry and I can’t play it on my PC with out resorting to something illegal lol

  In a month the Kaveri apu comes out..Nvidia needs high prices. They do not sell many things. On their earnings call they did not speak much about their graphics business……they pushed tegra..but tegra numbers were down 40%…….Yea not going to own those shares for sure.

The way i have looked at all of this nonsense is this. Power of hardware and all that jazz aside i have come to a single conclusion as far as this whole console vs pc war. Unless you REALLY have to play the exclusive console titles, which, lets face it, are just sequels of sequels at this point, you should just spend the money on a pc. Why? Mostly because this day in age you are going to need a computer anyways. So why not just put more money into one thing and make it badass than spending money in two places for two mediocre pieces of hardware? You can use game controllers on pc so “i don’t like keyboard and mouse” isn’t an excuse anymore. I just don’t see any reason for xbone and ps4 consoles to exist.

The problem with a PC is that the graphics requirements for the latest and greatest games are always changing and requiring more and more. Games that you buy today have no chance of running on a computer that is more than three years old, and even if the computer is a year old it might have trouble running it. With consoles, the graphics are the same from the first game for the console to the last game for the console. Nothing changes. PCs are superior in their own way, but when it comes to gaming, it’s the console.

I’ve been a “console gamer” for the past several years because I don’t really spend a huge amount of time on games. However, I have known that PCs are better for long-term gaming investments, and, now that I’m getting ready to build my first rig (AMD, mainly for price and an affordable hex-core), I don’t think I’ll use my PS3 for much more than a blu-ray player.
