For most users, upgrading to a Solid State Drive hasn’t been a priority or necessarily possible due to the much higher price per gigabyte compared to traditional mechanical disk drives. For those that have had the chance to experience SSD probably agree that in terms of beneficial upgrades, a SSD might be the best single upgrade that you can perform on your computer and is hard to go back once you’ve been fortunate enough to use one. The good news is that now, SSDs have finally dropped below the $1/GB threshold so we’ve compiled 5 of our favorites that won’t break the bank!
The Crucial M4 SSD while isn’t the fastest on the market, has quickly received thousands of near perfect reviews and praise all over the internet and has proven to be one of the most reliable and best bang for the buck solid state drives on the market. Currently the 128GB Crucial M4 is on sale for $113, bringing the cost per GB down to down to a measly 88 cents.

The Kingston HyperX 3K SSD packs blistering quick read and write speeds of over 500 MB/s, come bundled with a desktop mounting kit and is backed by Kingston’s legendary 3 year warranty. As of this post the HyperX 3K SSD is on sale for $104, which bring the cost per GB down to an even cheaper 87 cents.

SanDisk is a top brand when it comes to flash media with the likes of Compact Flash cards and SD cards but in the ever growing SSD market, I feel that SanDisk is often overlooked. You don’t hear too much about this SSD, but it’s quietly racked up tons of positive reviews, packs read and write speeds over 500 MB/s and is backed by a solid 3 year warranty from SanDisk. Currently, the SanDisk Extreme 120GB SSD is selling for $110, which brings the cost per GB down to around 92 cents.

Powered by Samsung’s 4th generation 3-core MDX controller, the 840 series SSD packs AES 256-bit full disk encryption, read speeds over 500 MB/s and a 3 year warranty all for an insanely cheap $99, which bring the cost per GB down to a stupid low 83 cents!

Intel and cheap don’t usually go hand in hand but we close out the list with Intel’s 180GB 330 series SSD which pack Intel’s reliability and super quick read and write speeds to make arguably on of the best SSDs on the market regardless of price. This 180GB 330 series SSD is currently on sale though for $155 which brings the cost per GB down to a super cheap 86 cents, which is a fantastic deal for an Intel SSD.
