AMD’s popularity will probably go up a notch or two for many users in light of recent events showing the new AMD A10-6800K breaking the 8.0GHz mark, showing its strength as a serious player in the overclocking game.

Finnish overclocker ‘’The Stilt” has surpassed the 8.0GHz mark, breaking records and surely putting a smile on many faces at AMD. This momentous event was achieved with Mr. Stilt using a custom liquid-nitrogen cooling that kept the chip at a chilly -185°C, a core voltage of 1.992V, a base clock speed of 126.99 MHz (~127 MHz), and 63.0x BClk multiplier. The motherboard used was the ASUS F2A85-V Pro combined with a  pair of mystery branded DDR3 memory sticks running at a cool speed of 1692 MHz .

If AMD’s new APU lineup is showing these kind of results with extreme cooling in overclocking, we may see a new wave of resurgence in AMD fans around the world. Although the results we will see here are for the extreme end of overclocking, this will trickle down to the liquid cooled user as well who will be happy with more modest results. It will be interesting to see a pure APU challenge, and where it can take the overclocking gurus of the modern day will be fun to see in action.

I always root for the underdog and anytime I see AMD doing good a say a personal cheer in my head as Intel dominates so many markets it gets boring sometimes and change is good. This is just a quick story folks, but if you want to see the full results you can click here to see them.
