7970 vs 780

If you’ve checked out our review of NVIDIA’s latest GTX 780 3GB video card, you’ll know that in terms of performance at it’s price range it can’t be beat. With that said however, competitors like AMD’s HD 7970 GHz edition still offer great performance at a much cheaper price point.

In today’s video we compare NVIDIA’s reference GTX 780 head to head against the HIS HD 7970 GHz and compare not only sheer gaming performance but also price, features and variables like the gaming bundles AMD is including with their cards at the moment.

As of today’s post, the NVIDIA GTX 780 is selling for about $650 online, while the HIS HD 7970 GHz we’re looking at is on sale for under $480. Which one would you choose? Let us know in the comments below and enjoy the video after the break!

Since 7970 GHZ is looking DAMN PowerFull I will be waiting to get the 8970GHZ EDITION which will fucks Any GTX graphics cards even TITAN I believe ! cause look at the 7970GHZ !!!!!

    • Geoffrey Chen

      Wait for the 9000 series.

  • SoldManX

Yeah cause a cut down Titan vs a 7970ghz is fair… ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Why don’t they try to compare it to a 7990 ? they afraid or something ? cause comparing hardware that can be consider old with hardware that was just released is too damn stupid

      Single gpu vs. Single gpu.

Also, it is current from nV going up against current from AMD.

The 7970 GHz edition came out a long while ago , the 780 was just released . -_-

I know, but its nVidia’s latest going up against AMD’s latest. Later on this year, we will have to see AMD’s 8000 series go against nV’s 700 series, which the nV will be the “old” cards.

          • Andre Hayasaki

You mean 9000 series, the 8000 series is just 7000 series rebranded for oem manufacturers lol. But yeah it will probably rip the 700 series to shreds and then the 800 series will come and so forth and so forth…

          • Tom Braider

            Yup.

its fair based on price range. My issue is that the GTX 780 just came out, I doubt the drivers are really allowing the card to push itself. Whereas amd has had time to make better drivers for the 7970.

I just ordered the Nvidia 780 ! I can’t wait to see what it offers. I’ve been using AMD for the past 5 years with one high end card and with mid ranged cards in crossfire . I havent personally liked the experience with either and I’m hoping Nvidia will be better.

Just going on bang for buck and power consumption I’d have to say that i’d go for the 680 with the 7970 a close second.

Im going to get a GTX 780 and one of these monitors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUBzjL2XN9Q . It blows away any 3 monitor set up IMO.

Cool comparison video elric keep up the good work :)

You know AMD is leading the graphics manufacturer when reviewers are comparing an old AMD series vs new Nvidia series. ;)

Fact is, reviewers have gone along with GTX 680 for quite a long time claiming it was faster than 7970, even when new drivers came out which made 7970 faster they still claimed it was slower BUT as soon as a new Nvidia series of graphics cards come out, they boast about how much the new series are powerful than the old AMD series. Jealous much, Nvidia-loving reviewers? :P

Not sure if you read comments on old posts but could you do a video comparing the toxic 6gb 7970 and the 780. As they’re more closely price I think it would be great to see them head to head.
