Boost 2.0 Overclocking
The DirectCU II cooling really comes into play when talking overclocking using NVIDIA’s Boost 2.0 technology as the new overclocking is all done through the boost. In able to achieve better overclocking results the cards used to just get everything turned up, core, memory and voltage and results would vary. Now how cool your card runs and how it remains cool is what determines the cards boost speeds.
The card at idle ran at 31 Celsius and at 58C under full load (Reference GTX 780 was 37C & 78C). When the card was overclocked to 1100MHz Boost and 6208MHz on the memory the card ran at 62C max and this added 5-12average frames per second in performance. Since the cooling was barely being taxed the ASUS DirectCU II GTX 780 ran at 1267MH, even though we only clocked it to 1100MHz, which shows great potential to going even further than the 200MHz increase we did here.
