PA249Q Final Thoughts

The ASUS PA249Q is a monitor that is most certainly not your run of the mill product and it really does have a niche market that can truly use the functionality available, but if accuracy is your bag of tricks the PA249Q is stellar.

That is not saying that other users who want a truly outstanding monitor cannot appreciate the features being brought to the table. The thing is the real strengths of this monitor lay within its ability to work with the print and media industry where accuracy is not just something you want, but absolutely need.

They named the series the ProArt for a reason, the series was meant to be appreciated by those folks who do digital art or photography. From its very easy to use and navigate buttons that make screen adjustments of any kind an almost no-brainer to its ability to accuracy in matching color correctly the PA249Q screams quality.

Many times I have wanted to make a home photo collage, but the pictures from my printer never seemed to really look like the picture I thought I took as they had a green or blue hue that was not being shown on the monitor I was using, and that is not a shabby monitor by any means either its just geared toward 3D gaming and not meant to reproduce the images on the screen accurately via print.

With the PA249Q and my Canon S100 I was able to take pictures, adjust them in Photoshop, use the monitors inbred capability to adjust the size of the pictures and then print them on a high-quality color laser printer looking like what I had on the screen.  I do not do a lot of the artwork for the site as I mainly show my mug on YouTube and write the reviews, but if that was my real day job the PA249Q is great deal for what it offers and it has a very reasonable price tag for the features offered. Essentially the ASUS PA249Q is a totally decked out 24’’ monitor that is geared for the professional artist or video producer that comes with a price that closer resembles mainstream than pro-gear pricing. The PA249Q is worthy of an Editors Choice Award due to its excellence in design and feature set that is a perfect match for the audience its targeted at.

Hey Elric, do you have any experience with the older model, the PA246Q? How does it compare to the new PA249Q?

One thing to note is that using Mac OS X for this type of monitor isn’t the best idea, since the OS only support 8-bit color depth output, no matter the hardware you’re using (it’s a OS limitation). Windows, on the other hand, can take advantage of the 10-bit color depth. (No hate or fanboyism, it’s just how it is).

      Good to know.

I am using Win7, but gg on putting that out there.

This is very true. One would have to boot windows from bootcamp to enable 10-bit color depth. Its a driver and os limitation.
