Most of the time when we release news regarding a pre-built system, we get quite a bit of negative responses from the DIY crowd, but the thing is not everybody is as tech savvy as you folks, which makes pre-built the only real option.

It seems as though however, ASUS wants to quell those negative feelings and bring to the table a system that has all the bells and whistles a hard-core enthusiast would want inside their tower.

Their new system is called the ROG TYTAN CG8890 Desktop PC and comes fleshed out with an i7-3960X CPU with Turbo Gear, a GTX 690 with 4GB of GDDR5 that supports up to 4 monitors or 3D Surround. It is also rumored to come with one of their latest PCIe SSDs that features RAID 0 on a single PCIe card and is said to deliver 4X the performance of a standard SSD configuration.

The system is also a bit of a transformer, as when it is overclocked, the case actually transforms, which this in itself is actually a pretty neat thing as how many PCs can claim the same thing? None that I know of as of now that is for sure.

The exterior of the case also is something not on the normal beat and track “On top of the aerodynamic polygonal exterior that features an intricately designed chassis that transforms when the system is overclocked, the additional DEFCON and bottom grill lighting indicator shows system readiness with blue and red LED lights.” Asus said. “With its upgraded 10-way venting and liquid cooled CPU, the CG8890’s case is a cooling behemoth engineered to deliver the most efficient heat dissipation and airflow for incredible stability in any extreme condition.”

Not only do you get a system with kick-ass looks and specs but you also get instant and stable overclocking by way of the one-click Turbo Gear that offers three different overclocked states. With just a simple click of a button the system can be started up with 3 different speeds of overclocking depending on how far you want to go. There is also the DEFCON indicator and bottom grill lighting that shows the systems readiness with various red and blue LED lights that change depending on what overclock speed you so choose.

You can get a easy overclock to 4.2GHz, but to me that is nothing new as the TPU button on most ASUS motherboards can do the exact same thing with ease. The overclocking starts at 3.8GHz and tops off at 4.2GHz without a restart, but depending on the cooling better scores may be obtained and more than 4.2GHz should be very achievable. Below are the 3 boot options available to the user.

Startup mode

ROG logo + bottom grill lights up blue, with the CPU overclocked to 3.8 GHz

Turbo Gear mode

ROG logo + bottom grill lights up red, with the CPU overclocked to 4.0 GHz

Turbo Gear Extreme Mode

ROG logo + bottom grill lights up red, with the CPU overclocked to 4.2 GHz

All of us like choices, as that makes us feel more in control of what we are buying and ASUS has said that there will be multiple versions of this new PC line to be had. This means that if you like the concept and design of the CG8890 desktop, but cannot afford the extreme high-end components, you can choose from lower end and more affordable system components.

Users will be able to choose from other components like NVIDIA’s GTX 680 2GB video card, the option from 4GB to 16GB of memory, up to 15TB of internal storage via HDD and/or up to 256GB of SSD storage, a short list of optical drives and additional things that will be seen when the system hits the market for sale. Last week we did an unboxing of another new ASUS system, which you can view here.

“The additional ASUS Xonar DX audio card powered by Dolby Home Theater technologies delivers 35 times cleaner audio quality (116dB SNR) than onboard audio codecs, giving gamers the edge by hearing their enemy way before the enemy sees them.” Asus added. Pre-builds are not for everyone, but if you do not have the knowledge or a “guy” to build you one your options are obviously narrowed down a bit and in those circumstances having one already built and ready to go could be a blessing.

The last system we received from ASUS had a sub-$900.00 price tag and many people tried to rain on that parade claiming they could build one for less, but after we added up the parts and accessories the system was actually a very solid deal. ASUS has not yet released either system to the open market. And no confirmed pricing has been released on this new ROG TYTAN CG8890 Desktop PC, but those should follow shorty hereafter. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow my peeps and with that said how does this new series of systems from ASUS sound to you good folks? Inquiring minds want to know, or at least I do, LOL ☺

It should come with a titan instead of a 690

    • doctorpankake

But the Titan is a lot weaker.

      • Mike DeGeorge

But in games that only can utilize a single GPU without crashing or getting any frame rating issues at all, The TITAN will be stronger, since in the 690, you’ll have to rely on the 680, which gets beat badly by the TITAN.

        • Chris Tavarez

@mikedegeorge:disqus I dont think you know what your talking about …. In my believe. the 690 would benefit alot with 2 680 processors on the same PCB.. Its not just a gaming machine but also a workstation… Because it uses LGA 2011 so it only makes sense that they would use a dual GPU. Now… If it had a titan.. it would be alot better for gaming you got that right but the whole game rate issue shouldnt be a problem becuase those drivers for the 690 are pretty optimizes… NOW heat might be an issue. but this machine seems pretty solid… BUT it is true… the should have used TITAN. But The reasons you stated of why they should have are the right ones… Not to disrepect you in any way. just wanted to inform you on that.

          • vandaL

I would personally prefer a true SLI configuration, opposed to the pseudo-SLI of the TITAN, regardless of the applications.

          • Mike DeGeorge

The TITAN is not a dual GPU card. It uses a single GPU. The GPU is GK110. The 690 uses two lower clocked 680s in SLI. The 680 GPU is GK104. The 690 is doing true SLI. It’s just the GPUs are on the same PCB using an SLI bridge that’s embedded into the PCB.

          • vandaL

            Hence “Pseudo-SLI”… -.-

          • Mike DeGeorge

            How is it pseudo SLI?

      • Dan Oliveira3

not necessarily weaker, depends on your point of view, maybe for a gamer never for an overclocker (sorry for my poor english Im not a native speaker)

  • Seth Hoke

A TYTAN without a TITAN? Makes sense.

    • Elric Phares

LOL, I just asked ASUS the same question and I have confirmed pricing will be available this Wednesday!!!

      • Chris Tavarez

its gonna be ridiculous pricing.. glad I built my rig. 3930k at 4.6 GHZ…. I have a single 780… but would I need that much more for 4K?

        • Chaz Olvera

          For 4k.. yes

          • Achaz Mowatt

            How would You know? A Radeon 7970 supports 4k. Why wouldn’t a GTX780?

          • TheMetalSgt

They support it. That doesn’t mean you’re going to be playing BF4 on ultra at 60fps @4K

          • Achaz Mowatt

Maybe not, but at least they might be playable frame rates. It took a while for them to release a GPU that can run the original Crysis at 60fps on 1440×900.

          • TheMetalSgt

Yah, but probably on lower settings. Honestly, I think 4 K is a waste of money. Just sit a normal distance from your monitor, and 1080p is already pretty much the maximum amount of pixels your eye will make out. It’s much better to invest in a nice GPU and good 20-27 inch 1080p monitor with amazing contrast and colour technology, rather than wasting so much on 4K. Sure, 4K will be standard someday. That’s why I plan to pick one up, for sub 300 dollars.

          • Kevin

1440p imo for now rather than 1080

  • WallaceMcG

Holy shit that looks powerful as fudge.

    • JimmyWales

      “Looks powerful”

You sound like an Apple fanboy

      • WallaceMcG

        How come? I don’t own a single Apple product…

  • Edmundo Cherrington

The fans, they are beautiful. *tear*

  • Chris Tavarez

@elricphares:disqus I know this might be off topic but Will my Rampage IV extreme be compatible with the 4930K processor?

    • Elric Phares

Of course Sir..BIOS flash most likely…

      • Chris Tavarez

thanks for the reply !! man I watch alot of your videos … feel like I know you.. love the info u give me.. Linus is a little annoying but he updates alot more.. pretty sure u dont like the guy.

        • Elric Phares

That is very far from the truth as me and him get along just fine, but for some reason everyone thinks we hate each other, not true in any way. I hate that fracken Logan and his beard,, LOL Just Playing, I love everybody man.

          • Demigod

im pretty sure this can fly … at least for the price … why not use two Titans instead of one 690 ?? it will be a whole Titan ….thing … like Linus ‘ll say, Hooooolyyyy crabb !!

          • stav

careful or logan will send a flock of ducks to sit in your house and bother buddy the dog until you hit that subscribe button

  • Haytham Kenway

Not gonna lie, the system is a beauty, but we will see a huge markup in price, its prebuilt after all.

  • xToFxREAPER

I kinda just want the case :/

  • Diclonius Franbunny

The last time Asus released stuff like this it was more overpriced than an Alienware. I don’t see a pricepoint on this page at all. Any insight into its price Elric?

  • http://www.merobotodo.com/ benito tocamelo

    Can it Fly???

  • William

On Amazon it’s priced at about $5000…

  • vandaL

I just want the chassis.. screw the components.. lol..

  • Josh Peet

    sweet

  • Dario Volf

Like rly ? soo cheap made but high price like you are just paying for rog brand and shitty quality metal thats not even painted inside ?!

  • bram afkari

What is the perpose of the Titan gpu?? 690 is stronger……

    • TheMetalSgt

It’s single GPU and it runs cooler, uses less energy. I say, who gives a crap. IF YOU”RE BUYING A 1000 DOLLAR GPU you obviously are looking for performance and you can afford a slightly larger power bill. Also, yah, the 690 will give you better performance for a lot of titles optimized for dual GPUs. Titan is pretty much a “here is what we can do with a single GPU” card, rather than “This is the card every gamer needs”

  • cemerian

    i want the case

  • Arkvid

That’s definitely R2D2 father. And i woldn’t be amazed if there is a dwarf inside. :

  • Tyler Bunton

It’s going to be overpriced as all Hell…but it seems totally worth it.

  • TheMetalSgt

This is why I still love premium pre builds. I don’t care if they’re a bit more expensive, they are totally worth it. It takes these companies to advance our technology, since even though modders at home in their basements could probably do this stuff with home made cases or modded ones, it takes these companies to push these amazing features and designs to the market. That’s one of the coolest cases I’ve ever seen. A bit overdone? Yes. Do I care? No way, shit’s awesome.

  • gunitexpo

they could make billions from that case!

  • Yahya Nael

the real deal is with the case .. all these companies fighting to lead on the PC build market but the true is ,, they don’t make ANY THING NEW ,, they just change the case

  • medumdum

if only they were nice enough to release the case by itself.
