Grand Theft Auto V Code Leaks, PC & PS4 Versions Coming?

While GTA V has yet to be officially released, pirates have been able to get ahold of and distribute it digitally for the Xbox 360.

What’s important here though is not the fact that they’re playing it early, but what some users have discovered by looking at the underlying code, in particular a configuration file that points towards the likely re release of the game for both PS4 and PC. Take a look at a snippet of it here:

For those of you that don’t know, Orbis is the original project name and OS for PS4. While news of a possible PC version isn’t all too surprising considering Rockstar’s past with delayed ports, it’s nice to have a little more firm evidence for it really happening, and people who’ve pre ordered PS4’s that don’t own PS3’s can look forward to not having to buy both consoles if this is a title they really want. Now of course this is far from an official announcement or 100% proof that it’s really going to happen, but it’s enough to whet people’s appetites for a comment from Rockstar.

    sweet!

Release on current-gen, force people to buy it for PS3 and 360. Then release PC version, force PC gamers who got the console versions to buy it again. Then release it on next-gen, so console gamers can sell their PS3′s and 360′s and still be able to play GTA V. It’s all BUSINESS.

    • Alex

Welcome to the world of marketing! It’s pretty much luring the PC gamers to their console version and then telling them to go back to their PC by releasing the PC version. Smart move but also reputation killing…

      • MrXleader

They hav+e already been there and done that so not so surprising..

      • Seth Hoke

And yet I will still get the PC version when it comes out even though I’ve already bought the PS3 version.

        • fa

          Epic fail.

    • bluey

“force people to buy it” How are they forcing you to buy it? Too much entitlement and little patience in today’s society. As for it being a business…Well, duh, they invested $170+ million in it’s creation! Not happy about it? Get together with some like-minded people and create your own open source game free to all.

    • Geoffrey Chen

Dude I’m so tempted to buy it for my xbox right now mainly because for friends(2/3 play xbox 1/3 play pc) but man…

When was a GTA on different generation platform? Apart from the PS exlusive Stories.

Not going to happen. GTA V is only on this generation, along with a PC version. Same with every other GTA.

    • TheMetalSgt

The difference is, if they have a PC version, it’s going to take almost “no effort” to port it to PS4 and X1, since they are PC builds. Before, consoles always had whacky proprietary hardware, so cross gen would mean coding 3 times. 1 for current gen, one for PC and one for next gen architecture. This time, it’s only essentially 2 types of architecture, and they are already doing both so it might happen this gen. Also because there is a huge market, and it’s so close to next gen release.

    its an XML code? for?

    • Hurrr

      It’s a config file.

  • Puppet H

Cool. Us PC Gamers are hoping it will not be a horrible port like GTA IV was

    • SeeThroughToast

If it’s anything like Max Payne 3, there should be no worries with the quality of the port.

    • Leon

Judging by what I can gather from the snippet in the main post and being a Game Programmer myself, they have really thought through how they will implement GTA V for all their platforms unlike GTA IV. I’m very confident it will run perfectly on PC.

      • medumdum

Hoping it is. My game stutters quite a bit unless i play at 720p on medium/high-ish settings, and i think i should be able to handle it, i’m on a fx-4100 @4.3ghz, hd 7770 from MSI, and 8gb of ram, which i’m pretty sure is enough to run it on 1080p at atleast medium settings, and that’s what the auto configure puts it at but it lags and stutters on me.

        • fa

Shit system. Won’t be able to even launch GTA V.

          • Geoffrey Chen

His GPU is fine but damn your CPU blows…seems like it’s “bottlenecking” it? Only logical reason why you can’t run it fine…And what’s with the 720p bro? That should make it even easier….

          • medumdum

Yeah i was thinking it was the CPU as well, i though they would work decently together since they were both on the $100 range when i put this build together. Will hopefully have enough money by Christmas to upgrade to a 8350 or at least 8320. Would get intel but then i’d need new mobo and another copy of windows since they’re tied to the motherboards.

          • Geoffrey Chen

Yea get the 8350 while you’re at it. With that 7770 not being restricted by the CPuU, you’ll probably run it high.. AMD’s new GPUs are being showcased in 4 days but wil be availible early october. For Nvidia, its around same time as they did b4.

          • pandusen

well it is running on the ps3 isn’t it? that system is over 7 years old.. go figure.

    • arkhangelsk44

What makes GTA IV for PC a horrible port? For me, there’s nothing wrong with it.

      • Puppet H

it had loading issues, textures issues, many high end GPUs, even Crossfire setups had horrible lag and stutter on them.

        • fa

          It HAS*

They never fixed any issues because they CANT.

          • Puppet H

            true

    • fa

Guaranteed it is. Rockstar is notorious for taking a shit on it’s customers.

  • moises

If the game comes out for next gen it will looks better on pc anyways, im very happy than i have my 360 to play gta 5 tomorrow and i will build a pc with i5 4670k 8gb of ram and gtx 770 in november, so when gta 5 comes out for pc i will enjoy it to the max on the pc.

  • medumdum

Knew it was coming to PC, which is why even though i own a PS3, i’m waiting for PC release. Here’s hoping that the modding is as good for this one as in GTA IV!

  • PhuGamer4life

They absolutely gonna release on PC. most GTA players is from there…lawl

  • ShadesofBlue

Bought all GTA games on that recent Steam summer sale, just need GTA V to add to my collection muahahahah

  • Fiberton

Could merely be a common file they use. As a lot of previous game files get copied over and edited within game companies. Saves a lot of time to make new ones.

  • Ali

Can I run it on medium or low or high ?
    MSI LIGHTINIG : GTX 770
    INTEL CORE i5 4670K
    8GB Corsair 1600 RAMMHZ

    • Cody Grothe

if the port isnt shit, high to med with steady fps im thinking.
