Haswell has lifted and now that Computex is in full swing, the overclocking competitions have begun and it seems that one group in particular is kicking ass and taking names in the overclocking game.

Yesterday, this same group of stellar individuals won a different OC competition which was sponsored by Corsair and it seems they have no intention of slowing down either, as seen with their impressive 6.88 GHz overlock on an ASUS ROG board.

The jury is still out as to what the average Overclock speed will be for many a user, but we do know now that close to 7GHz is attainable on the extreme end.

A day prior to this feat, Intel’s i7-4770K was pushed to a slightly higher 6.98GHz and while the 6.88GHz overclock didn’t quite top the near 7GHz speeds, the DRAM frequency that was achieved is one for the record books as it was pushed to a staggering 4.1GHz and is also supposedly the fastest recorded memory speed on the new Haswell platform.

This was not done easily and as you can see in the pictures liquid nitrogen had to be continually poured on the CPU in order to maintain a threshold on keeping the CPU running cool under high voltage.  This is a really interesting thing and shows Haswell to have some decent potential in the extreme overclocking arena that many thought was not even going to be a reality with this launch. I guess the naysayers have been put to bed.
