Intel’s next generation Thunderbolt speeds to be twice as fast
Most people know about Intel’s Thunderbolt technology even though there are still not too many peripherals available for that as of yet, but now Intel has released information that shows the speed of transfers has been improved for even better throughput between devices. Intel yesterday announced that its next version of Thunderbolt will feature a 20Gbps transfer rates, which is twice the amount available on today’s 10 Gbps interface. One of the main reasons for this is to make the connection have the ability to view 4K video and send 4K video files at the same time that would utilize the new interfaces full bandwidth.
As of now the real importance of Thunderbolt has not been realized due to the fact of a slow adaptation of products that support it. Even though it’s been 2 years since its release Intel has only worked with a select handful of companies that most likely has a huge impact in market saturation. I myself as well as a few of my friends have taken advantage of this new technology, but the peripherals are still pricey and even an external hard drive has a higher price tag than say a USB or IEEE device. It has been released that Intel currently has 200 licenses for this new technology so maybe the market will start to show more products, but for now the adaptation has been slow. As far as sheer numbers go through Intel has an impressive piece of technology here that should see better support as time goes by. Hopefully we will soon see better pricing and availability of Thunderbolt supported products. IS anybody out there really excited about this? Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow.
