Final Thoughts and Conclusion
At the end of my test day I find that even though AMD basically did the old rebranding trick they are not the only one to do this type of thing so you can’t really say it’s a unfair or bad thing, it just is what it is. There is however absolutely no really bad news to report on the card though, because as technology matures it can be made to work more efficiently and cooler, which translates into better gaming and a better overclocking experience. Did AMD go out and reinvent the wheel? No, but they did make the wheel run a bit smoother making the ride a more pleasant experience overall.
AMD has now brought the price down to $299.99 and a bit less depending on the manufacture, they have improved how well the card remains cool during gaming and have made the CrossFire bridge and obsolete part as well as introducing their new GCN technology. So yes a rebrand, but with a few more additions to the technology to keep it current and competitive as well as a major price drop. The card is aimed at competing with NVIDIA at the GTX 760 and 770 levels and beats the 760 clearly with back and forth results on the GTX 770 so the card is by no means a slacker in the gaming arena. The card ran between 32 and 66 Celsius, which is not bad considering how hot higher cards tend to be.
So basically the R9 280X is a rebranded 7970GHz Edition card with better technical cooling and a few new technical twists to improve upon what was already a solid seller in the market. AMD has gone where others have gone before, but MSI puts their own personality in their Twin Frozr Gaming Edition that should help propel sales as the card runs very cool and very quiet leaving enormous room for advanced overclocking a thing enthusiasts flock to when it come to there video card selection. MSI uses all high-end quality parts in their build which is something that takes it a step away from any reference riff-raff cards and their Afterburner software is one of the most used tools by home users looking to get the most from their card.
If you are a die-hard AMD fan looking for a new card to run your games the MSI Twin Frozr Gaming Edition has everything you need to get up and gaming without any installation headaches. With a price drop of over $100.00 the R9 280X offers solid gaming at 1920X108p or at 2560X1440 with less heat than the previous generation HD 7970GHz Edition card with support for the latest DirectX 11.2 games so there is nothing here to really complain about. MSI has once again done a good job with implementing their own flair onto another video card and I am sure we will see an even higher overclocked version via the “Lighting” whenever it is ready for prime time. Overclocked out of the box with ample headroom for more extensive overclocking as well as a very competitive price mark garnish the MSI Twin Frozr with an Editors Choice for the mid level gaming market. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow my friends. So what do you think about the new R9 280X and the MSI version in particular? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments down below.
