The fan is one of those things that’s been used in many applications to cool homes, PCs, cars and more and through all that time the only real innovation we’ve seen on them was the Dyson table fan that broke traditional barriers.

However, now we finally see a PC company take the fan to its next evolutionary state by actually changing the design of the fan blades to increase air-flow and therefore provide better cooling for the products that use it. I know fans are not the most exciting of tech news, but better cooling is something we all can grasp and appreciate.. Powercolor is raising the bar on fan technology and is the first to introduce the “Double Blade” concept to the market.

The way that Powercolor is achieving this is by redesigning the actual way that the fan is made, and by making a few  very easy modifications the Double Blade fan should reduce noise hum, fan dust, and should improve thermal performance by quite a bit.

“This exclusive design adds an extra fan blade attached to the original one; the extra fan can absorb airflow into the center and increase airflow up to 20 percent compared to the traditional thermal design,” Powercolor says.

Just as it sounds, Double Blade technology involves adding a second, smaller fan blade to each larger one. The purpose is to centralize airflow and ultimately improve thermal performance.

Usually a lot of dust gets collected on the fan blades reducing performance and adding a bit of noise to the systems, but Powercolor says its Double Blade design can prevent dust from depositing at the bearings and settling at the bottom of the fan, prolonging the life of both the fan and video cards and creating a quieter working environment. I really hope that this new technology is a game changer, if only in minimal ways as having better cooling is something anyone can appreciate, as the cooler the product runs, the longer its lifespan is. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow. So what do you think, does this sound like an awesome idea or what? Let us hear your thoughts on this new Double Blade technology and if you think it is the next step in the evolution of the cooling fan.

do they have on neweggs or amazon yet? Pretty sicks fans.

  • Diclonius Franbunny

Yeah but how much more expensive are these fans going to be over the already plethora of advanced fans out there?

    • its4thelulz

it’s power color, so probably pretty cheap

  • Nick Cash

Sweet. Now if they can make a thin version of this that would fit my budget (roughly 16 cents, a used tissue, and some lint) I would be STOKED!…and a owner of the fan

I’d be happy to buy one of these if they have a high static pressure so I can direct air upward and feed fresh air to my GPU(s).

  • Cody McCormick

That would be awesome if they made a kit to sell that I can buy and attach to my VaporX cards.

    fanception

    Awesome

This looks a lot like the new Asus fan that they put on the GTX 780. well, at least they serve a similar function
