Samsung Unveils 1TB mSATA SSD

1TB mSATA

Just the other day I was talking SSD technology and the fact that Intel has announced plans to bring forth 2TB PCIe/2.5’’SSDs to the market, and here a few days later we see Samsung unveiling the world first 1TB mSATA SSD. It is so cool to see technology moving forward as that means that soon prices will drop to make way for newer tech. Samsung now has the bragging rights to the another market first with the 840 EVO mSATA 1TB SSD boasting a performance of 98,000 random reads and 90,000 random write IOPS with a sequential read speed of 540MB/S and write speeds of 520MB/s.

A spokesman for Samsung had the following to say regarding this latest news from the Korean giant: “With the new mSATA SSD line-up offering up to 1TB of memory and an optimized software tool, we expect that consumers can enjoy high storage volume and performance on ultra-slim notebooks besides desktop PCs,” said Unsoo Kim, senior vice president, memory brand product marketing, Samsung Electronics. ”We will continue to bring leading-edge SSD products and software solutions with improved quality and reliability, while working on offering higher consumer satisfaction and strengthening competitiveness of our branded memory business.”

The 840 EVO mSATA SSD is built upon Samsung’s 128GB NAND Flash memory that is also based on the 10mm manufacturing process. With the extreme density being offered by this memory, this allows Samsung to fit 16 layers of 128GB chips totaling 1TB for the most memory ever seen on an mSATA. mSATA is a great product for using as the BOOT drive for your PC as it frees up a SATA controller and allows direct access from the motherboard for better performance. This new bad boy is also very small as it weighs in at a slight 8.5 grams and is just 3.85mm thick.  When this product hits the market I will be all Gung-Ho about it, as I love the speed and access times of an SSD, and with mSATA it’s smaller, faster and doesn’t take up any additional space in your case. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow my friends, Happy Tuesday everybody.

i realy think that more than 90 gb ssd is useless ….. what’s the point of ssd ??? load games ?? load windows ?? you can do it with 90 gb or even 120 …. so dont go waste your MONEY on 1TB ssd …. with that low speed in write and read ….

    • Eric

Jea but there was a Person oute there in the late fivtis he said: “No Computer will ever Need more than 736MB of RAM” that was the same Person who also said “5 Computers are enough for the whole world.”
And that Person my son was Bill Gates yes you are right Bill Gates.

      • Dhmhtrhs Vourliwtakhs

Mr.Eric i am speaking with the current windows and current type or games and programs …. i can’t and i dont want to speak for the future because i have high hopes :)
but … thanks for your reply

        • Eric

I would say the Futur is not that far away as you might Think if you imagin how big transitors where compared to thoes 5-10 Years ago and how many more data we have to store more often more quickly and how oftenwe Need to access it as fast as possible. You are right i wuoldn’t also spend that much Money but i love seeing that going further. So that consumer grade SSD’s or other pars for consumers get’s cheeper and cheeper. And by the way if i imangin about my PC with a 90GB SSD wouldnt be enougth.
          10GB OS
          40GB BF3
          40GB other games.
than i Need more storege for my movies and stuff (that goues propably on an HDD
and what about Office and stuff thoes programs you use every day. i Thing the seetspot is 128GB to 256GB
And when you go back in time an HDD with 1 TB was like 300bucks like 4-8 Years ago. now for 300bucks you get a 750GB SSD or sometimes 10TB HDD storage.
Sry for my bad or misspelled words i am not an english one i am from Germany. :D

          • Dhmhtrhs Vourliwtakhs

just to end this it all depends on what you wanna do . i think this solves everything .

    • GH0ST_SE7EN

It helps with load times. Bf3 alone took ~27GB of space and since people have many games, they need that space. And the IO helps A LOT when working with complex excel sheets.

It also helps with photoshop and video editing. I regularly use about 4-5 full 32GB SD/CF cards every time I shoot a wedding (for photo and video), so being able to dump and work with these on an SSD rather than a HDD speeds up my video editing process and removes the MAJOR lag I would otherwise get.
