Ferrari 9590 Extreme Gaming PC Giveaway + Extras!
With the release and great feedback on our latest...
Well okay, it seems the wait is finally over and the Steam OS will finally hit the shelves on a scary Friday the 13th, boo. Some folks may be a bit put off by the fact that this will only be available to the US on its first run, but for those in the US the download for the new Steam OS is available today for those who want to take it for a test spin. Valve’s servers will hopefully be up to the task of handling all the crazy downloads that will be happening.
One point that Valve wants to point out though is that unless you are an experienced Linux user you should be very wary of trying to get this going, and they heartedly suggest that you wait until January 2014 until the actual Steam Machines arrive in that scenario. The Steam OS will not run along the kernel of your Windows OS so you cannot just install it on a Windows machine and be up and going, nope it takes a bit more than that to get it installed and functioning properly. I am sure there are those out there who really know their Linux Kernel and for those folks the floodgates have been opened.
Steam Machines of every type will soon emerge and this should be a very exciting time to be a PC gamers. Valve had this to say about the subject: “SteamOS” will be made available when the prototype hardware ships,” Valve wrote. “It will be downloadable by individual users and commercial OEMs. (But unless you’re an intrepid Linux hacker already, we’re going to recommend that you wait until later in 2014 to try it out.) More information about this will unfold in the days ahead and I am sure there are a million or more people looking to jump onto this train, myself included so until then all we can do is wait and anticipate.
