The Top 5 PC/Gaming Desk Setup Project!

We know that many of you guys have PCs you’ve built and gaming/desk setups that you’re damn proud of, so in spirt of that we give you the Top 5 PC/Gaming Desk Setup Project!

The way it’ll go down is you can submit your PC build or desk setup pictures to us (email your pictures to [email protected]) and we’ll go through the entries, narrow them down to the top 10 and then let you guys vote for the top 5.

In order to keep this fair, you must take a picture of your YouTube or Twitter username with your setup that way we can avoid users just randomly googling setups and faking entries.

Why give prizes to people with the money to pay for it regardless?

  So what we are supposed to form a charity and only give prizes to who you deem as worthy. we do this fairly this is about fun and folks like you make it mundane. This a way to interact with our fans, if you are just looking for handouts for the poor I believe welfare handles that. Some person who just has a cool looking setup will win, not who has the best system, this is not about that.

    It’s just the requirements that aren’t the best. I don’t think you should give it to the poor or for charity, but maybe the best budget build, or smartest choice build, not the coolest looking area. To have a cool looking area, you have to put in some money to make it look good. Something that can be advice to people as well would be ice. I think that there was a bit of confusion from this topic, since I saw it before the video. It seems like it’s just picking a random thing to give a prize for.

        shoot my build i got the ssd for mine from my advance on my student loan i would like to get another ssd and actually stick in the laptop my friend has that my mom bought at a yard sale for 5$ as they said it had a virus on it in reality the hd had cooked as the heatsink on the processor and gpu had clogged with lint and dust so i stuck in an 80gig hd which is low compared to that ssd and he would like to have more room on that laptop but he cant afford it himself as he lives with his wife and stepson and trying to support them with even her working with a bad back and he only makes 25,000 a year estimated

It doesn’t stand until there is evidence, ever heard of “that which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence”? Books cost money. Flowers cost a lot of money to replace them so you don’t just have dead flowers everywhere.

It’s not changing anything. I’ve explained how flowers are expensive to keep up, because they die and you have to constantly care for them, and books are expensive (about £5 per book) relative to the amount needed to make it look nice enough. Any other evidence that people have posted, I have retorted (the $4000 system everyone thinks destroys my argument, the PC with lights etc.)

        You may have books saved up from your childhood, free books donated to you, family books/heirlooms. Plastic flowers? Insane amounts of money are not necessary to have a nice looking area. A 4000 dollar pc will hopefully look nice, but if it’s set up in an untidy area with clutter and food scraps everywhere, it’s unlikely to win.
        
        You need to realise that there will be people who can be creative with very little money, perhaps not yourself.

        Since when have plastic flowers looked nice? From your childhood… So kid’s books? They don’t look nice either. I wasn’t talking about only the PC, the PC cost $3000, the arcade-type thing cost $1000. Some people can do a lot with little money, but you can’t make miracles happen. The only way it could really look good with that little money is if they get many free things or find scrap from places. Both of which aren’t very likely, and so make the probabilities still that the people with enough money have a higher chance of winning. I’m not saying it’s impossible for a cheap setup to win, I’m saying it’s a lot less likely and thus skewing it towards those with enough money. That skew is unfair, which is what I’ve been protesting this whole time.

        I seriously just had to quickly sign up to roll out a comment. This whole thread is absolutely ridiculous. Well, I can’t say all. Props to Troy Richard because his build was very cool and I think he should definitely enter it into the contest. Anyways, back to the main topic. This contest is in NO WAY unfair. It’s not about having the best PC as Elric said in his video and in his replies earlier to djf317 and you. Some people just love computers, including myself. I’m 14, and after I finished building my own PC, I open it up every now and then because I just love looking at it. I was so excited when I finished building it and it just makes me proud every time I look at the inner parts and my hands are begging to be apart of an unboxing session with all new parts for a new computer, but like I said I’m 14, I will have to wait a while to get a chance to put together another computer especially since my family isn’t the richest out there. What I’m going to do is just add little things as time passes to my computer to decorate it, make it look cooler, make it more powerful as time passes, etc. MANY PEOPLE DO THIS. Actually, almost everyone with custom pcs (should) do this. For people that love making their computer look cool and like decorating, THIS IS WHAT THIS CONTEST IS FOR. You don’t have to enter, the only way this contest could come off unfair is if you don’t feel as if you decorated your pc enough or at all and are mad because you can’t really enter the contest but at the same time you can. Considering when you look at a build like Tony Richard’s, that’s exactly what this contest is for, to show off builds like that. Grow up, seriously. If you really care about entering this contest SO BADLY and feel like your pc isn’t decorated enough then buy a bunch of decorations off Amazon, put them in the decorations, take a picture of it, THEN RETURN EVERYTHING. Sheesh, seems like that’s all you really should do when you’ve been complaining about the smallest and stupidest things when it’s just a contest for people who have fun with their computers.

        A good looking PC doesn’t need to be a $4000 system, You can always get a good looking cheap case and install fans with LEDs and by LED strips and hang them around the motherboard and if you’re good with electronics, you can do as my friend did, he built a great looking mid-range PC that looks better than my high end PC, he made the thing look like a strobe light with 3 different colours and carved out some custom logos, modded the case and all that which shouldn’t require THAT much of money.( note that he works as a hardware technician and sell his modded PCs)

        This whole thread finished ages ago. I’m not saying that you can’t make your PC and area around it look nice, I’m saying it’s a heck of a lot easier when you have a lot of money and therefore have a greater chance of winning this contest if you have enough money.

Point out exactly where my error is in my understanding of the contest:
        1. It is for the best looking setup area
        2. It is easier to make a great looking setup if you have enough money that the prizes matter little and probably not go to great use as someone who will appreciate it. This is because you can actually pay for fancy decorations that are actually designed to make your area look good.
        3. This does not mean that someone with a calculator can’t win.
        4(conc.). The contest is biased towards those with (see number 2).

        I made it out of parts mainly. Its a MAME cabinet with all the old arcade games on it.
        The pc, case is old stuff left over from 2 pc’s ago. Acient stuff and free for me.
        
        The cab I bought in a flat pack and put it together but you can make out of 2 pieces of MDF if you got the time. Paint it after, add stickers etc.
        The screen is 27″ which cost a bit
        The wiring I did myself and the buttons and joysticks I bought. They are not expensive.
        Miscelainious stuff too.
        
        It cost me maybe $1000 doing it the expensive way but if you went with a smaller monitor and made your cab (a lot of work) you would get that down to maybe $600.
        
        My PC eyefinity system with dual 7970′s on the other hand cost near 3k (i forget exactly) so I think this is a good example of a interesting idea, done ‘cheap’

You began part of my life instantly year ago and without your reviews and benchmarks i couldn’t have decided my becoming PC parts.         We need guys like you and i love that you always “talk” to someone behind the camera. That keeps us believing that you mean that thing to “us”, our lovely viewers. I’m just saying that keep it up and don’t let these “party poopers” get you down! I need you, and WE need you! I am from Finland and just need those updates from techfront from across the sea, and no, just reading about them just do not interest me in any way if i have a change to like “feel” the rewievs content.
        
        My build is started from year ago with 700€ (about 926$), and little by little upgrading it ’til this day starting from amd stockcooler to noctua, graphics card to GTX 560ti and then GTX 760, and 3 screens (believe or not) from fleamarket about 7$ each, so no big bucks spent? And keep in mind that all upgrades i make aren’t one time purchase. Poor or not, how to watch your videos without anything to watch them? Iphone costs about a decent gaming rig.
        And yeah, without you(tech tubers) i wouldn’t have even seen those crazy sales with my bare eyes. Big Thanks to you and your mankind saving work.

Which was cleared up in every other one of my comments. That says nothing about what you intended it to mean, which I know you wanted it to be a reach out to the fans and a friendly contest.         I never said rich, I said those that are capable of paying for it regardless, paraphrasing of course, which also entails that their other priorities for their build would have been met. That was based off of the probability that someone capable would win. The probability is significantly greater for a person that has already met the priorities of their build and wouldn’t benefit from the prize, which is why I made the broad question.

The very first reply to you was that your intent was in the right place, and I made some suggestions for making a better contest.

  Well some people can do some pretty awesome stuff without spending a lot of money, Sure having expensive mice and keyboards that has lights may be in the ” rich people factor ” But you can easely take a pair of for example what i use, 2 LED light strips from IKEA and put a green plastic on them and when they light on my dark blue wall it becomes a cyan colour, mix that with a Razer Deathadder 3.5G and a Logitech G510 and set the colour to blue and its just awesome

    It’s a very old case. Liquid cooling wasn’t popular then. I have an old Corsair liquid cooler on it though but I had to mount the fan on the outside because it’s not really designed for liquid cooling.

    The Desk is easy to maintain, once every 3 months or so I would clean it out, but it was also just a matter of moving the monitors and kb/mouse off desk to lift the lid. Plenty of room to work with. The airflow was not an issue, everything had its own air channel, so no other air source interfered with another. the desk was also lined with tinfoil, to keep a constant temperature, if you hold a bit of tinfoil and blow on it, see how cold it becomes, well with a fan it has a great cooling effect. The watercooling radiators were built into the rear of the desk, all air coming in from sides and going out the back of desk. Also 2 reservoirs built into the front of desk perfect flow, all on a flat and no restrictions. This was also a peltier build so had cpu block manufactured by ultrasonic II and then added the peltiers to it. I have other builds, made since this one and am even on another build at the moment.

Elric simply posted a competition for everyone to enter, he didn’t mention prerequisites (apart from actually having a setup) nor mentioned a category of people that can make entries. It’s quite simple; send a picture of your setup via photos or however you want to portray your setup. Your setup can involve anything along the lines of technology and innovation such as a gaming PC, Mac, iPad, monitors etc. Is this what people are struggling to understand? Elric doesn’t care how good your gaming system is or how beautiful your mac is – he more or less interested on how you work on them, what you do on them, probably how organised you can be and in general how your setup looks all bounded by photography. I mean It’s quite sad how people are easily driven by inferiority complex as if they are the only set of people on the planet to be less privileged. I myself is not rich but I’m contented with what I own and if Elric decides to post a competition for everyone, it does not give me the right to go in town with the complex card over some silly assumption that the competition is biased to those who have the best gaming rig. People lightning up!
