Toshiba Unleashes 2560 x 1440 Kirabook to Compete with Apple’s Retina MacBook Pro
Toshiba has been making quality electronics since the early 30’s and have always been an innovator and a company that makes good quality products, not junk. Toshiba recently released a statement about a new laptop they are launching that should be the only model they offer with a 2560X1440 display in their Ultrabook lineup. The new Ultra is called the Kirabook and is the very first Toshiba product to ship with and Ultra-High resolution PixelPure screen that is also protected by Corning’s Concord Glass. You can also purchase a standard version as well as a model with a 10-point touchscreen support. The 2560X1440 model has a Pixel Density of 221 PPI, which falls just shy of Apple’s retina display Macbook Pro which comes in at 227 PPI, or the Chromebook Pixel’s 239 PPI, but it still shows Toshiba moving up in the game.
While the initial release reports speak nothing of whether the panel will be IPS based or not, Toshiba has stated that the unit has a ‘’Broad Range OF true-to-life colors to amaze the eyes. There are also the options for those who want to play around in the Photo World, as the units do come with preinstalled versions of Adobe’s Photoshop and Premiere Elements so you can get going without the need of spending any additional cash on software. Since Toshiba has gone all-out on the graphics, why dawdle on the sound? and in that light they have implemented an audio system that is worthy of its other components. To go along with all that fancy screen stuff they are also using a sound configuration based on speakers and technology from Harmon Kardon and an audio processing unit developed by DTS that should make your audio sound as good as your screen will look.
As far as all the actual specs go, Toshiba has thus far been very vague about what the guts will be, but considering all the effort that has been put into the design I don’t see the skimping on the parts they use. Most high-end Ultrabooks come with an i5/i7 configuration with 8GB of 1600MHz memory and a minimum of 128-256GB SSD, but the real kicker is the battery life that is supposed to allow users to forgo having to be tethered to an electrical outlet for a full work day, and if this pans out to be true that will be a great thing for those folks on the go. If you have used a laptop you know that heat can become a real issues, and even though I love my ASUS gaming laptop, it overheats due to its entire enthusiast based components. Toshiba claims to have a solution to that though as they have now opened up about their proprietary AirFlow II multiphase fan technology, which keeps the Kirabook running cool even under full load, which by the way, is not an easy task to tackle. Another unique feature is the chassis of the new unit that Toshiba says is the only laptop of its type to come with the Z791 pressed magnesium chassis a solution that is said to be an amazing 100% more durable than A6063 aluminum alloy the material most laptops are currently made with. With all the new technology under the hood Toshiba is looking good. Between the AZ91′s extra strength, honeycomb reinforcements under key points, and a stabilizing hinge, the Kirabook is designed to feel durable and rigid despite measuring 0.7 inches thick and weighing only 2.6 pounds. Preorders will open May 3 with pricing from $1,600 to $2,000 at select vendors. I think this new laptop sounds really awesome and I am anticipating taking one for a spin. What do you think? Does this new UltraBook sound like something you would want to get into? Here on Tech OF Tomorrow we value your opinions and thoughts and look forward to your comments down below.
