UBZL Shockwave: Maximum iPad Protection

Today we’re checking out the UZBL Shockwave Rugged iPad Case, designed for heavy duty protection over style or portability.

To begin with, this case is a total pain to put on, though to be fair this is a direct result of how it’s sturdy it’s designed to take impact.

With a combination of rubber and plastic parts, as well as a screen protector, the case is able absorb and protect iPad 2/3/4 by greatly reducing, as the name would suggest, the shockwave of any kind of impact, whether you bang it into something or drop it.

The biggest thing to look out for when putting this thing on is to keep anything and everything away from the inner screen protector, which picks up dust and finger prints with ease, making it very possible that you spend a good bit of time putting this thing on, only to end with an obvious fingerprint or spec of dust that will bother you to no end until you take it off, clean it, and redo putting it on.

While bulky and adding a good bit of heft to the Ipad, the case does leave enough open spaces to allow sound to be clearly heard from it, and leave ports open for easy enough access, except for the mute/rotation lock switch which is an utter pain to try and access, and might even be impossible for those of you with bigger fingers, though thankfully you can always use on screen controls to take care of those functions.

I also would have liked to see a little more padding on the interior backside of the case, which has a lot of plastic and edges that can lead to a bit of a scratch scare, but the Ipad is snug enough inside that it isn’t too big of an actual issue and more of a personal preference for peace of mind.

Overall this is a solid case from a pure protection standpoint, while a bit on the hefty side and a few minor gripes like the mute switch access aside, it’s an excellent investment for those of you leading an active lifestyle while carrying your ipad, or if you just want more surefire protection from possible accidents.
