Battlefield-43

As we noted earlier this week, Battlefield 4 was updated to support AMD’s Mantle technology but the problem was that there were no drivers from AMD to support the update. Doh.

The wait was short lived however as the new 14.1 Beta drivers which include Mantle support are now available for download here. Some notes before installing 14.1 is that you must uninstall any previous drivers installed so make sure and do that before jumping into these. Below is a list of current AMD compatible Mantle products.

  • AMD Radeon™ R9 Series GPUs
  • AMD Radeon™ R7 Series GPUs
  • AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 Series GPUs
  • AMD Radeon™ HD 8000 Series GPUs
  • AMD A10-7000 Series and AMD A8-7000 Series APUs

AMD is claiming performance gains of up to 45% on Battlefield 4 with R9 290 series cards and up to 200% gains on Star Swarm. We’ll be sure to get to testing and release some results ASAP but for now definitely let us know what you think if you get a chance to download and play with Mantle. As always thanks for reading here at Tech of Tomorrow!

I’ve heard it’s just a better tool of getting console games to PC and benefited only the most anaemic of CPUs.
That, or it’s just the difference between d3d and OpenGl.
    I hope neither are true.

I think for battlefield that is mostly true, however future applications where developers actually utilize the extra GPU draw calls available to them could make mantle invaluable for all systems… Only time will tell.

the performance increase is great for the first beta, i went from around 50-70 outside and 70-80 fps inside on siege of shanghai to 60-80 and 80-100 fps with my
amd fx 8120 oc to 4ghz and stock 7950 vapor x

I wonder if Mantle will be such an API that makes graphical artifacts less likely… I haven’t heard anything about z-fighting, distortion, or artifacts yet.

So i just got everything updated and played a few TDM and Pistols only rounds on BF4 and the new drivers are really silky smooth. and i did get at an additional fps also i dont have banding issues anymore. hell this works for me!
