  I’ve never mined bitcoins before, but I’ve heard that graphics cards are way better for mining, compared to only using your CPU.

    Anyone serious about making money in the bitcoin market knows that asics are the way to go.
    I had 2 7950′s mining at around 700 hash. If you account electricty, I was only making 20 $ a month.
    With asics you can mine at thounds of hashes with a low power draw. And as the difficulty to mine goes up, because people are buying asics. This will only become more relevant.

      What kind of ASICs would you recommend for a low price? I’m guessing the USB dongles are not very cost effective anymore because the hash difficulties are too high.

        I did a bit research on Butterfly Labs. From what I found out they don’t seem to have a very good reputation in the coin-mining community.

      Not all coins allow the use of ASIC.
      
      I know for a fact that Dogecoins can only use CPU/GPU power, not ASIC.

  Mining bitcoins, that is. The only way to mine Scrypt-based coins (which are currently more popular among the mainstream as you can still viably make them without additional hardware) is by GPU or CPU at the moment. I’d think that someone who is “serious about mining” would know such a thing.

  Seems like you don’t know nothing about mining coins. Mining bitcoin isn’t profitable with GPU’s and is hard with ASIC’s. With GPU-s you can mine other scrypt based coins and make an ok profit. Even mining litecoin with GPU’s is still profitable.

    Marginally. They are extremely inefficient for the task as they consume a lot of power.
    
    Asics are easy, you plug them in and forget about them.
    If you want to game at all on your pc you have to stop mining.

      Have you even mined any altcoins? Know the profits and costs? Do you even know that you can’t mine altcoins with bitcoin ASIC? It seems to me that you have read one post about cryptocurrencies.

        There is a whole world of cryptocurrencies out there. In my opinion they are a fruitless endeavors.
        Yes their is scrypt mining on gpu’s, but at the end of the day, you have a hard time breaking even.
