MSI Refreshes GX Destroyer Laptops With AMD R9 M290X. Potable and powerful the all-new GX Destroyer Laptops, two models to be precise the GX70 and GX60 both now will include the latest A10 APU processors from AMD. It just starts there though as they also come equipped with R9-290X graphics as well as a rather large amount of features geared solely for the gamer. The new laptops will have their new Dragon Gaming Center that allows the user to temporarily turn himself or herself into a dragon to defeat a worthy opponent. “Cough” Cough” okay maybe not, but a guy can dream right? Ouch tough crowd, LOL Did I mention it blends?

So what is the “DGC” or Dragon Gaming Center? The DGC is designed to be like a built in PC doctor, Health inspector and Fitness trainer all-in-one program by MSI. The DGC performs full system check-ups on your system as well as automatically configuring your system to its maximum performance values. The DGC also closes any unnecessary background programs running that may be taxing your CPU as well as allowing the CPU to function faster according to MSI. This sounds very interesting and may be one of the coolest gaming laptops I have seen so far, but can it really keep up with a desktop gaming rig? Lets hope so right?

The specs look like this, both the GX70 and the GX60 feature AMD’s A10-5750 clocked up to 3.5 GHz, Radeon R9-M290X (2 GB GDDR5) graphics, a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, Killer E2200 game networking, an SD card reader, and audio ports.  They also both provide HDMI output, a 720p HD webcam, a SteelSeries gaming backlit keyboard and multi-touch capability, which is perfect for Windows 8.1. From there the specs begin to change, as there are 2 models each with its own unique features in some areas. The GX70 sports a 17.3-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 12 GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM, a Blu-ray optical drive (reader), Wireless N and Bluetooth connectivity (AW-NB114H), three USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, and a weight of 8.6 pounds with a price of$1,399.99.

For those who cannot afford that price tag or want a 15’’ jobber the GH60 is priced lower and contains a 15.6-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory, a DVD Super Multi optical drive, and Wireless N and Bluetooth 4.0 networking (AW-NB100H). There are also three USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and a weight of 7.7 pounds and a price tag of $1,299.99. MSI says they plan on implementing the SteelSeries Engine software as well for even more control of your gaming environment, which gives the GX series a much broader customization array than most any laptop currently being sold. This will be on both the GX Destroyer and G series laptops coming out later this month. I have already confirmed with MSI that I will be obtaining a review sample of the 17” model to show off for you good folks. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow, have a safe and fun Friday night, or a great morning whenever you are reading this. Cheers!

  • Guy Jameson

overkill PC, I must fap until it releases!

I wouldn’t call the cpu “terrible” but it’s no match for an i5 and falls way short of an i7 still in conjunction with the gpu the results should be good for running games at v high settings.

I would not buy this this is only a .6 percent upgrade from my current i3 370M this laptop is going to get destroyed by GTA 4 and games that are very CPU intensive and they call it the destroyer lol but this laptop does have some pretty cool features I will give it. that imagine eyefinity of a laptop wow

Why are people saying the processor is bad, at 3.5ghz and it has like integrated graphics or whatever an apu has im pretty sure thats capable to run any game thats on the market now?

This looks exactly like my current GX70, from what I can tell the m290x is a rebadged 8970m. While this is a great laptop but I do have a slight problem with it, maybe you guys could help.

I have a problem with the CPU throttling in the middle of gaming, and so far the only ways I have been able to fix it was to downclock the GPU or remove the pstates so the CPU is always at 3.2-3.5ghz. and no it doesn’t overheat.

Other than that, throw an ssd in it and it is one of the best value laptop money can buy.
