Toshiba cutting warranties for all OCZ’s non-SSD products

Toshiba is cutting warranties for all OCZ’s non-SSD products as they take over OCZ. As 2013 came to its end Toshiba came to terms about buying out the bankrupted company called OCZ for around $35 million in a package deal that included all of OCZ’z assets, their R&D team and all their SSD technology.  We see that the brand name OCZ continues on as OCZ Storage Solutions, but after the takeover it seems many of the products warranties have been derailed as seen by recent reports on the company.

There is some good news in all of this, and if you are a person who just bought yourself a high-end OCZ SSD it seems that you are one of the lucky ones still covered by a warranty. Toshiba has stated that will openly honor all Vertex, Vector and RevoDrives warranties. Warranties for other SSD products such as the mid-range Agility drives that were originally under a 3-year warranty have all been shortened and will now officially end on January 22 2015.

Here is where it gets bad though as “All” other SSD and other products by OCZ such as PSUs, DRAM modules, DIY notebooks and USB drives will no longer have any warranty at all. The really screwed up thing about this though is that some retailers are still selling these products on their sites even though there is no longer a warranty so be wary and aware of this when shopping. This is a really BS move by many companies due to the fact that the product has zero warranty time right at the time of purchase. For buyers in other countries this crap may not fly as there are strict consumer protection laws in many areas that will still protect you so do your homework before buying anything. Happy Monday everyone and thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow.

I have an OCZ PSU in my computer right now, the CoreXStream 500W. Absolutely fantastic and 100% reliable. Seems a shame to stop buying decent products just because Toshiba messed around the company.

And on with the local laws, In the UK we have the Distance Selling Regualtions of 2000 which guarantee a 30 day return window. It isn’t a lot and I think they may be a clause for electronics needing longer although I’ve only skimmed through the ACT so don’t count me on my facts.

I have the CoreXStream 700W since about 3 years; great thing :)

I got the 500W as I was on a budget and it was quite cheap. Wish I’d gone for the higher wattage now but it should still be fine for a few years.

That’s fine, you can’t legally cancel warranty on products in Australian under our consumer laws

You can’t in the UK either, but because OCZ filed for bankrupcy, and were not simply bought out by toshiba, they do not have to uphold any of the warranties for the defunct company, and considering a history of poor quality control, I’m really not surprised this has happened.

In some countries it may differ, for example here in Germany you get at least a 1 year warranty on all electric products, by law. A company selling these products here has to make sure you get your warranty one way or another. And by having bought such a product the contract(most of the time a bill) cannot be changed one sided in Germany, if you had 3 years of warranty it cannot be cut. Thus end-consumer will not be affected.

Yea I have an OCZ 550W ZT Bronze Modular and am not worried about it going down me it’s well-built but some insurance is still nice. Especially if I am upgrading to stronger PSU I can’t sell it for higher because there’s no more warranty D:

Wow, literally I requested an RMA for my OCZ PSU on the February 1st… I guess I am BONED! No replacement, and no refund I am guessing…
