It’s that time of the month again. No, not that time of the month ya perverts, we’re talking about the best PC & Gaming deals for March 2014.

Kicking off the list is more of a “for fun” item as once we saw it, we got a kick out of it since we’re use to checking out higher end products. The EVGA GeForce 8400 is still alive and kicking for a whopping $31.99. Anyone remember this card or still own it?

Next up on the list is a great case deal, so if you’ve been looking to build a PC for the first time, right now the Rosewill Galaxy mid-tower gaming case is on sale for $49.99. It features USB 3.0, solid cooling options and has a really nice black/red look with stellar reviews to boot.

If you’ve yet to pick up Bioshock Infinite, there has never been a better time. Currently, the entire collection is on sale for $11.99 which is one of the best deals we’ve yet to see on this collection. Definitely jump on it if you haven’t.

MOAR DEALS.

CYBERPOWERPC Unveils MEGA MINER Coin Mining PC Series

The MEGA MINER series is powered by AMD’s Radeon R9 series graphics cards, which provide up to 1000KHash/sec on a single card. With the ability to add up to three cards per system, the MEGA MINER has been intelligently designed with the GPU power to perform the necessary calculations faster to earn more coins.

The MEGA MINER series comes with a choice of AMD’s FX-4300 processor or Intel’s Core i3-4130 Haswell processor depending on the model.  The series also utilizes the Thermaltake DPS series of 80 Plus digital power supplies, which conveniently monitor one of the most vital pieces of information all coin miners need to know – your electricity cost. The MEGA MINER systems combine powerful mining hardware with the precision and control of Thermaltake DPS power supplies for the best coin mining experience.

While MEGA MINER machines are ideal for mining cryptocurrency, their multi-GPU nature also make them extremely capable gaming PCs. Cryptocurrency mining software allows the user to schedule processing resources for each individual GPU, meaning one graphics card can be mining while the other is free for gaming purposes.

What Is Cryptocurrency & “Coin Mining”

Cryptocurrency is a form of digital money that uses cryptography to form a decentralized payment network where its users validate transactions.

Coin mining is the process of maintaining and validating transactions within the block chain, which is a public record of all transactions made on the network to date. Miners run cryptographic hashing functions on their computers and only when a consensus is reached on results is a transaction confirmed and added to the block chain.

Block chains can only be modified by consensus of all miners in the network, which both prevents abuse by any individual or group and promotes security of transactions. The block chain prevents attempts to spend a mined coin more than once; otherwise digital currency could be counterfeited by copy and paste.

The CYBERPOWERPC MEGA MINER series assures users they have the highest density of GPU and CPU computing performance as well as adequate power and cooling out of the box to set up a cryptocurrency mining PC.

So what do you folks think about this? This new form of currency is making waves around the world and keeps growing and changing at every turn. What happens in the future will be very interesting to see as this is an area of technology that seems to be a touchy one with the old guard types who want to maintain their capital hold on all of the so-called real cash that floats around in paper form. The thing is the world needs change, and it needs it now as the 1 percent-ers who controls the money now do not want to share and could care less whether you or I can live or die, as their selfishness has no bounds. Bit Coin offers something new, something different and I hope brings new life into an economy so screwed up, it may never bee the same again. Thanks for reading on throwback Thursday.

AMD releases the R7 265 slashing pricing on the midrange market. It seems as if AMD the one who is usually a follower is trying to be the leader by aggressively changing the way they do things. Altering their GPU roadmap with a card that will fit right in at the $150.00 price point AMD has done a quick trick that should propel them into 2014 with a bang. That card is the all-new R7-265 a card that will be priced to sell fast and coming it at $150 the card will surely gather the attention of gamers on a budget.

It seems as if the card will be a rebadged 28nm GCN R7-270 albeit with a few cores missing and a larger memory interface. AMD’s Bonaire (Still makes me giggle) will be replacing the $180 Cape Verde chipset. This was the chipset that was used on the Radeon 7770, but this card in testing was beaten by its own brand-mates as well as the GTX 650/650TI from NVIDIA leaving AMD with a weak spot in their lineup. AMD made a snap decision and then came back with the 7790, which happened to be a much faster card with 896 GPU cores.

R7-265-640x353-2

Although it was not known at the time AMD’s CGN 1.1 instruction set is shared by both that chipset and the new Hawaii core cards being released now that supports TrueAudio as well. The only drawback to the Bonaire chipset is that it has a limitation of 128GB on the memory interface, which made the card slower to cards like NVIDIA’s GTX 650 Ti Boost that has a 192-bit memory interface. AMD did a lot of rebranding last year, but the positioning of products did not change only the names of the cards being presented. The R7-260X is a 2GB card that costs $140, but the GTX 650 Ti Boost was still beating it so AMD countered that by lowering the price of the 260X from $150 down to $120 a $30 savings.

Radeon-7790

Now priced at $120 the 260X is positioned against the GTX 650 and the GTX 650 Ti Boost. The 260X beats the 650 without a problem and should go head to head with the 650 Ti, which is great positioning for AMD making them the go-to guys for the mid range market at this point in time. This may all seem a bit confusing as AMD has their cards stacked right up against each other. Lets take a look at the current lineup: The R7-250 begins the lineup at $90, followed by the 25X at $100, the 260 at $110 and now the R7-260X at $120 so you can see everything is quite compressed in this market. The price point on the 260X is about 33% higher than the R7-250, but the card is also almost twice as fast making it a very solid deal for the money.

AMD-Roadmap-Graphics-640x320

AMD is starting out 2014 very strongly and these are probably just the first of many price drops we see this year. When taking a look at the roadmap that AMD is currently adhering to you can see that there are many more very significant price drops coming still later this year. NVIDIA most likely has a launch coming right around the corner which propelled AMD to make these drastic changes, but that always ends up being good news to the end user who saves money when buying a new video card. AMD has been relying very heavily on their APU platform and the results so far seem very good for the market it is intended for. The next year should really show how well people embrace them and having the new A10-7850K that is priced right combined with a good video card seems to be a sweet spot for many gamers who want performance, but cannot afford the high price. Pay attention to the mid-range market over the next few weeks because things will be getting shaken up quite a bit. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow folks.

ASUS Battles Gigabyte in a battle for Motherboard Domination in Q1 of 2014. Tech junkies around the world are very familiar with both ASUS and Gigabyte and it seems the 2 companies are openly competing to see who can see/ship the most motherboards this quarter. ASUS is still maintain the number one spot and won this race in 2013, but Gigabyte wants that spot so bad they can taste it. Gigabyte is currently expected to ship over 5 million motherboards in Q1 of 2014 and that may give them a head start over ASUS their main rival at the sales counter.

These companies went neck to neck in 2013 and ASUS only won by a photo finish leaving Gigabyte with a feeling of chance to possible overcome their numbers this Q1. The hard thing though is at this time point the entire PC market is rather flat and that tends to have a serious effect on how much is being bought by the consumer, which hurts sales dramatically. The numbers that are being brought forth are not those that are officially from either camp, but rather from Digitimes Reports , which reports that Gigabyte shipped 20 million motherboards last year with 40% shipped to China.

Gigabyte plans on changing their strategy up a bit this year according to comments made by Gigabyte President Alexander Ma. They plan on accomplishing this by aggressively targeting the mid and high-end marketplace in an effort to boost their average selling price (ASP) and their overall gross profit and return. Like I stated earlier though this market is rather flat and sales are predicted to decline by 5% or more in 2014 so Gigabyte has an uphill battle right out of the gate. Mr. Ma hopes that sales at least stay flat and that in the best case scenario sales will see a slight boost in total years sales.

Other companies are not so lucky, and 2nd-Tier vendors like MSI on top followed by ASRock, ECS and Biostar expect a much further dip in overall motherboard shipments. Can anyone say “Ouch”? This is just the tip of the iceberg and more dips in sales will be seen across the board in the PC world in 2014. Hopefully we sill see better motherboards with a variety of new things such as color schemes and alternate form factors that still have some uncharted territory. What would you like to see in a motherboard that is not happening now? Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow. Happy Hump Day my brothers and sisters of tech!

AMD unleashes the R7 250X to an eager audience. As far as entry-level gaming cards are concerned there are many people who simply cannot afford the greatest that technology has to offer. Now AMD has officially released their new R7 250X, a card that will sit perfectly between the R7 250/R7 260 and make a host of AMD fans jump for joy. The thing is the card really offers nothing new as it is essentially just a rebranded HD 7770, but it does a have lower price point at the $99 making it highly affordable.

From the various reports that have been leaked it seems as if the R7 250X performs identically to the aging HD 7770. There are some minor technical difference the main one being support for “Mantle” however TrueAudio is not, but that was laid out clearly by AMD prior to the mantle launch. Only the extreme high-end cards will come with the TrueAudio option. Based on the “Cape Verde” chipset the card sports 640 stream processors, 40 texture units, 16 ROPs and a core clock of 1000 MHz. As far as memory goes we will see 1 or 2 GB of GDDR5 running at an effective clock speed of 4.5 GHz on a 128-bit bus.

It also has more power consumption than its brother, the Radeon R7 250X consumes up to 95W of power and so requires power input through a PCIe port. The main competitor for AMD’s R7 250X at this level is NVIDIA’s GTX 650, but it looks like the 650X performs a bit better. If you want to save yourself an additional $10 you can always buy the r& 250, but it is quite a bit slower than the 250X. For a few more bucks ($20-40) you can move up the AMD food chain and get yourself a R7 260/260X or an NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti. By the time you read this, the card will be on sale at many of the retail and e-tail stores for you to get a hold of if you so desire. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow.

Is Newegg Premiere The Amazon Prime For Geeks? There are lots of people very familiar with Amazon Prime and how you can get free 2nd day shipping and many other benefits like free movies and TV all for one payment of $79.00, not bad right? Well now Newegg is offering something very similar for $50.00 a year, but what do you get for the $50.00 price of entry as Newegg only ships items and does not have any fringe benefits beyond that to offer you at this time.

What you do get with Newegg Premier is free expedited shipping that guarantees shipment within 3 days on all their products as well as discounted 2nd day and overnight shipping. Members will also be able to return items with no fees (Seriously) and no restocking fees and there will now be a dedicated phone number for Premier members. Newegg is also claiming that those who jump on this bandwagon will get exclusive deals and advance notices of future products and deals.

Now although this might seem like a good idea to some tech enthusiasts looking to save a few bucks over Amazon Prime, especially in light of how they may raise the price from $79.00 to over $100.00 this may seem like a good thing.  The idea of try after you buy and then return the item may also seem like a cool thing, but that will eventually bite them in the ass on RMA situations gone out of control. Me personally I do my research before I buy and only return something if it is defective and not working so for me this means nothing and just feels like bait.

Newegg is a little late to the table with this new offering and for myself I have to admit I am laughing in my chair as when I weigh the differences between Amazon Prime and this I feel Newegg’s new program is a light beer version that only offers what should be done by them by default if they want to beat Amazon. Amazon Prime offers more than Newegg and their service includes much more than free 3-day shipping, they offer 2-day by default and they have all their multimedia aspects as well to go along with their package.

The bottom line is that at this time point Amazon Prime is a better solution for those who buy more than just PC parts and wants better shipping across the board, but Newegg does have better deals on PC parts on many occasions. For now Newegg is calling this the “BETA” stage and is offering a 30-day trail period for free if you sign up by February 18th. Newegg is also kicking down 100 Eggpoints just for joining, but 100 of those points equals one measly dollar so its really sort of rubbish in the finer sense of things. I am sticking with Amazon Prime for now, how about you? Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow on hump day!!

Are Bitcoin Monies Becoming Another World Currency? It seems as if things keep going the way they are going we may one day see Bitcoin monies becoming a worldwide currency used to buy anything you want, pay bills etc. When this all started out it was a hobby for a select few who had the know how to mine coin.

This is the same Bit Coin that is now tradable and spendable almost to the point of matching paper money, well not completely, but it does seem that day is coming soon. You can no longer just stick a few video cards in a system and think you will make bank, as there are other using newer, more sophisticated means to mine Bit Coin. You can mine light coin and then transfer that to bit coin, but things just are not the same as they were. Now an entire new generation of companies has machines that are solely used for the purpose of Bitcoin mining and cost a mini fortune to get a really solid mining machine.

A company called COINTERRA has a brand new machine called the TerraMiner IV that costs loads more than a few AMD cards, but also gets serious results. The TerraMiner was Designed by world leading experts in ASICs, mathematics and algorithmic research, it features the in-house purpose-designed custom ASIC – the GoldStrike I. Now this new technology costs almost exactly 6K so the investment alone is a steep one, especially when compared to when Bit Coin mining began and anyone could afford a machine that could actually make you some coins.

That has all changed and that is for the good and for the bad as now high tech components like the COINTERRA TerraMiner will cost more, but also yield more as well. Check out the specs, as the TerraMiner IV delivers unprecedented performance at more than 2 TH/s while maintaining an exceptionally efficient power rating. It has been designed and optimized for standalone use by Bitcoin mining professionals who demand the very best cost/performance ratio available. This is just one of the many new types of machines being offered today for Bitcoin mining and I am sure more are to come, but my question to you know is this: Now that a machine for professional Bitcoin mining costs so much now to be efficient, have the new mining machines out priced themselves for all, but the wealthy already? Thank you for reading Tech Of Tomorrow. The specs of the the TerraMiner are below for those who might be interested.
