Hello again Techfans! Today marks the release of one of the most anticipated PC games of the year: Titanfall.

We went ahead and grabbed the collectors edition last night at midnight, and it is absolutely insane how big it is, easily one of the largest and most expensive collector’s editions we’ve ever purchased.

Included inside is not only the game itself, but also a poster, fullsize 190 page artbook, and the main reason for the huge box (and $250 price tag), a 19.5” statue of a titan accompanied by a few soldiers. This is one of the most expensive collector’s editions around, and yet for what you get it feels surprisingly worth it as far as collectors editions go. Check out our full thoughts and the actual unboxing in todays video below!

Gigabyte BRIX Pro Unboxing and Overview.

Hey tech fans, everybody loves a mini PC and with Intel taking the lead with their N.U.C version of PCs we see Gigabyte taking things just a bit further and in their own style by way of the all-new BRIX Pro. This little unit is so small it barely takes up any real estate on your desk, and it can also be mounted via its included “VESA” mount for putting the Brix Pro in an out of the way location. Although this unit is small it actually packs quite a punch and has some decent specs to back it up.

  • Features Intel® 4rd generation Core™ processors
  • Intel® Iris™ Pro graphics 5200
  • Supports 2.5” thickness 7.0/9.5mm Hard Drives (1 x 6Gbps SATA3)
  • Ultra compact PC design – 0.79L (62 x 111.4 x 114.4 mm)
  • 1 x mSATA SSD Slot
  • 2 x SO-DIMM DDR3L Slots (1333 / 1600 MHz)
  • IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi / Bluetooth 4.0 Mini-PCIe card
  • HDMI plus Mini DisplayPort Outputs (supports dual displays)
  • 4K resolution output (4096 x 2304 via HDMI)
  • 4 x USB 3.0
  • Gigabit LAN
  • Headphone jack with S/PDIF
  • VESA mounting bracket (75 x 75mm + 100 x 100mm

Inside is a micro ATX motherboard from Intel that has an onboard I7-4770R CPU that also sports Intel’s Iris 5200 embedded graphics solution that although may not be a NVIDIA or AMD killer, it still does a decent job at 1920X1080P in many games. 3D FPS shooters may have a hard time being played on higher resolutions, but game like WOW, DOTA2, StarCraft and many others will play very decently with the 5200 Iris graphics. The entire N.U.C platform is not geared for high-end gaming, but more of a total home or business solution for email, gaming and social media all in a very small package.

9521_big

Intel has a few models of the N.U.C that they are selling, but the Gigabyte BRIX Pro is basically a N.U.C on steroids and a bit more powerful than anything Intel is currently selling under their brand name. The Brix Pro uses 2-SoDimm memory slots just like a laptop and can also use mSATA or standard SATA drives internally. There are just enough USB 3.0 ports for a keyboard, mouse on the front and additional 2 on the rear. The front panel also has an SPDIF audio jack for speakers or headphones, and the rear panel is fleshed out with a LAN port, mini Display Port and HDMI connections. Power is provided via a power brick and cable combination included inside the box. If you want to see the unit being unboxed and see everything in the packaging check out the video down below and thanks for reading Tech of Tomorrow.

It seems the trend of All-in-Ones are still alive and breathing as 2014 has brought a few new models. The unit we’re taking a look at today is from MSI’s Slim Series called the Adora24G 0NC-016US. Not exactly the easiest name to remember =P

The Adora 24G features a 23.6 inch 1920 x 1080 flickerless display and an Intel Core i5 3230M 2.6 GHz CPU. The storage amount is nice coming at 1TB but some users may find the 5400 RPM speeds a little slow out of the box. The good news is there’s more than just integrated graphics in the unit which features an NVIDIA GT 740M so you’ll be able to do some light gaming.

Because this is touch screen based you guessed it, it is running Windows 8 out of the box. It’s also extremely thin, sizing in at only 21mm at it’s thickest point so if compact is a feature that apeals to you for your desktop or office, this may be a great option. I know for most of our readers, an AIO may not be for you but let us know what you think in the comment sections below!

Hello again Techfans! Today we’re taking a look at the CM Storm Pulse-R Aluminum Gaming Headset from Cooler Master. This is an illuminated design featuring White LED’s on the sides of the headphones coming from the crevice between the earcups themselves and the aluminum plates on the sides. There’s only a handful of illuminated designs on the market, namely the Siberia V2 from SteelSeries and the Afterglow headsets from PDP, giving the Pulse-R a fairly small market to compete with for those looking for a headset that not only provides a solid chat and game volume experience, but lights up at the same time for that certain cool factor. Coming in at an MSRP of $89.99 (and only $83 on Amazon at the moment), puts the Pulse-R in the fairly affordable price range, offering a below triple digit price point with a wired design that’s also fairly high quality.

Outside of the illumination option, the Pulse-R comes with a few other key features including a detachable mic, detachable power cable, and one of the more interesting unique features, the removable and customizable aluminum plates. Both plates can be easily removed using an allen wrench, and can then be spray painted a different color more fitting your tastes, or customized with greater detail featuring a favorite symbol or logo. The Pulse-R already has a nice sleek look to it to begin with, and the ability to customize the plates just makes it all the easier to make sure that the headset’s aesthetics really fit your personal taste. It also helps that form factor wise it’s really comfortable, the ear cups and headband feature cushions that are just soft enough to make prolonged gameplay comfortable, but firm enough to last through extensive use. I was personally able to wear the headset for several hours without experiencing any major discomfort or noticeable ear pain, so this headset definitely wins my approval in comfort factor.

Now of course features and form play second fiddle to the all important and main reason for purchasing a headset, sound and mic quality. While not featuring surround sound, the Pulse-R does boast a great balance for gaming intensive use with a big focus on bass and high’s. While it isn’t necessarily first choice for music or movies (outside of the occasional Michael Bay explosion extravaganza), the Pulse-R manages to allow multiple noises and sound effects come through cleanly all at once. The only aspect gamewise that seems to suffer is in game dialogue, which will often times get easily drowned out in comparison to any other noises characters try to compete against. Chat volume on the other hand comes through nice and clean thanks to the Pulse-R’s noise cancelling microphone. While there is some obvious condensation of a person’s voice, it does a great job of drowning out background noises that aren’t too loud or sharp, making sure that the user can be heard loud and clear to his allies in game.

Overall the Pulse-R is a solid headset for it’s price point, while it doesn’t try to offer any major thrills or big features like wireless connectivity or surround sound, it does offer good sound quality and comfortable performance with the nice little extra of offering an illuminated design. It’s not gonna be replacing anyone’s top of the line headsets, but those of you looking for good performance at below a triple digit price point will find the Pulse-R well worth it.

For some people headphones are the only true way they can listen to any audio source in private and without disturbing others. For this group of people the choice of headphone becomes an important one due to their limited way of enjoying audio. Gamers, audiophiles and just those who do general listening seem to also be on a budget without the frivolous spending ability that is shown by those who are cash healthy and that comes into play when making a buying decision. The divide has been drawn and now we see gamer styled headphones, or those dedicated to music audio only and a few who fit right in the middle.

The Corsair Raptor series of headphones is geared for those who want the ability to play games, but also listen to music as well without sacrificing sound quality in the process. We were able to take a look at 2 sets of this new line one that features 3.5mm connectivity and uses your onboard dedicated sound card, and the other is USB based and does not need a sound card to function. The HS30 and HS40 are priced within a well-balanced range with the HS30 being your standard 2.0 stereos with a price tag of $49.99 using the 3.5mm connection. The HS40 are USB powered cans, and feature 7.1-surround sound and hit the market at $79.99, which is very fair for what you get.

A lot of the features between the two sets is identical as they both use 40mm drivers, have a fold up microphone, braided cable, etc., etc. Both have very nicely padded ear cups for long wear times and have a padded headrest as well making comfort a forefront of their design. The mic can be brought down and adjusted to fit your vocal range and although I have not had a chance to test the mics ability from what I am reading online the results do seem more positive than negative. Today we just are doing the unboxing first looks at the products and have to save something for the review J No drivers are needed for either the HS30 or HS40, both are plug and play products and are a no-brainer to use. If you do not like your sound that you are getting from your PC with your sound card spending the extra few bucks to get the USB set will behoove you as USB sound although not the greatest is usually fairly solid.

All the controls for the headphones are located on the cable and this is another area where the products do show a difference as the HS30’s feature an all black volume, mute control, the HS40’s have a blue color and have more control options due to their 7.1 nature. For those on a budget looking for some solid cans for gaming and listening to music Corsair has many different brands lines including the Raptor that we are looking at today and the Vengeance series that can be seen at the end of the unboxing video. This holiday season we will be having the biggest giveaways in our history with sponsors from around the world kicking down the cool goodies to give to you folks. These headphones are just the tip of the iceberg and we will be giving away the HS40’s to one lucky fan. Thanks for reading and watching Tech of Tomorrow where we bring you – All the tech all the time.

In the race for who has the best R9 280X we see Sapphire make their offering in the non-reference arena in the form of their Toxic series AMD R9 280X, which we were able to get into the lab for testing late last week. The card is unique in a few keys ways first of which is a color change in the scheme of the card as gone are the standard AMD colors of red and black are gone to be replaced by orange and black in a strange new twist. There are 3 fans (2 Sizes of fan) on the face of the card to help keep the card running cool very much like the cooling we saw on the MSI GTX 780 Lightning card with two outer fans being larger than the center fan.

By now I am sure that you know that the new R9 280X is just a rebranded HD 7970 GHz Edition card, but that does seem to have much effect on sales as AMD has picked up quite the market share with this release. The Toxic Edition is one of Sapphire’s most popular editions as it comes overclocked and with an aftermarket cooler always popular with the enthusiast fan base. Something new however is the fact that this card will now be able to be recognized and controlled by way of the UEFI BIOS on motherboards that are compatible and that will be an interesting thing to see in a video card.

The box contains all the essential needed to get up and going other than your PC so installing the card is all you need to do on your end, and then after just install the drivers. The card, 8-pin power cable adapter, driver CD, connection cables, CrossFire connector and warranty information. The card is based on a 2-slot design and requires dual 8-pin connectivity for proper power and has a 250W TDP. On the back there is a very nice plate covering the PCB and this is something I really like quite a bit as it makes sure you do not cut your hand on sharp points and protects the card from oils secreted by our skin when touching it. All in all the new card looks really nice and I hope it gets great scores in the heat and noise areas. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow.

There are a lot of different speakers to choose from out there and making a buying decision can be daunting especially if you do not want to have to go out and listen to every different set of speaker and still make a sound buy.

Speakers can also range quite a bit depending on their features and what market they are trying to reach. Simple audio is reaching into a very niche market that falls right on the border of desktop and high-end audiophile. The Simple audio “Listen” branded set is also a very interesting product all around as it has an abundance of features that make them appealing in a variety of ways.

One of the biggest features that I feel make the “Listen” stand out is their ability to be a very portable and yet solid made product that can be used in any room in your house or any Bluetooth device as well. If you want to use them as your desktop audio system they can connect via the 3.5mm cable and regardless of which OS you use be it Mac based or Windows you can hook them up via USB for automatic USB connectivity. When using USB connection the “Listen” speakers use the native sound drivers of your sound system to power the audio, but you can get even better response by using a high-quality amplifier and the 3.5mm connection. The system will automatically stop playing if you are connecting a different type until you unplug the previous cable.

If you have amazing built in audio that is cool, but most onboard audio solutions are ho-hum for quality music reproduction and more geared toward gaming. The “Listen” comes with a 3-Inch midrange speaker with rare earth magnets and has FerroFluid cooled tweeters as well as bass reinforcing pressure driver. A pressure driver is a passive speaker that is slaved to the active driver(s) via the acoustic chamber. It typically consists of a frame, a rubber surround, and a weighted driver. The additional weight allows the pressure driver to use its mass to reinforce low frequencies. By utilizing a pressure driver, Listen’s low-frequency response is extended, rolling off (-10dB from reference) at approximately 45Hz ±5Hz with volume level at or below ~80%. The speakers should sound very clean with little noise interference even at high volumes.

The 2-way design ensures that the “Listen” can reproduce a broad range of frequencies and by utilizing SPL Sound Pressure Levels the “Listen” can produce a full range of frequencies without distortion or tone loss. The speakers contain a separate digital amplifier for each speaker and by providing separate digital amplifiers for each driver the “Listen” speakers are able to take advantage of several benefits to make them sound amazing. First, this design provides plenty of amplifier headroom to reproduce audio accurately, even at higher SPLs and peak output. Second, it allows us to use precisely tuned, phase compensated, DSP-based active crossovers. The bass reinforced pressure driver has an extra heavy weighted driver to ensure a clean low tone without muddy sound reproduction

Active crossovers that use a DSP to accurately reproduce the different frequencies ranges with out producing a harsh or unbalanced sound are part of what make the “Listen” a separate animal than your standard speakers. Simple audio also incorporates Dynamic Compression, which allows on the fly compression that eliminate clipping or distorted sounds even at maximum volume levels something only seen in the studio and usually during the mix-down phase of the process not on a speaker. The “Listen” provide Dynamic power allocation that allows a flat frequency response and also changes the way the speaker works and the way it actually reproduces the source signal. The speakers compensate each other at a different level than normal speakers and allow both speakers to be heard clearly regardless of how low, or how loud you have them. At lower volume levels, the woofer will receive slightly more power relative to the tweeter; at higher volume levels, the woofer will receive less power, allowing Listen to maintain a flatter frequency response across a wider range of volume levels.

The speakers are made to work anywhere with their various connection types and for those wanting an even fuller sound the “Listen” come equipped with a Subwoofer out. This feature is for those who want to utilize a subwoofer in their sound system, and something that no PC speakers I have owned came with unless they had a subwoofer in the speaker setup with the original purchase.  All in all just a lot of features that set them apart from the pack. Because Listen is a bi-amplified design, they treat the tweeters and woofers as separate channels for measuring power. Using a 1KHz sine wave, the woofers measure 21W RMS per channel with 8% THD+N, and using an 8KHz sine wave, the tweeters measure 19W RMS per channel with 3% THD+N. This means each speaker’s power is 40W RMS for total system power of 80W RMS. Ergonomically designed with a complete touch interface as well as remote control makes usage very friendly. I am very eager to get these speakers hooked up to my different systems as well as how they sound in different locations, but from my initial feeling and the specs that the “Listen” has I have very high expectations to how they should sound. I will use all of the different type of connections as well in an effort to see which one brings forth the best sound and also compare them to 5 different sets of speakers in a comparison of different priced and different spec speakers. Thanks for reading tech Of Tomorrow. Pricing is slated at around the $499.99 mark, but these are not meant for the meek, but rather the connoisseur who wants great audio and portability in the same housing.
