When I first released an article about the new PS4, the big question that everybody asked was about the controller and the fear that Sony would somehow screw the chicken and make a new one that really sucked. Now we see an alleged new controller being shown and it looks to not have much deviation from the current model and shouldn’t require a learning curve to figure it out.  Sony’s next generation console code-named “Orbis” PS4 has been making waves ever since it’s first announcement last year, but the controller has been a hush-hush situation until today.

The new Prototype controller for the PS4, which popped up on Destructoid earlier today, has been confirmed to be the new concept for the PS4 and is the current dev kit available. The end result of the controller’s final outcome is not 100% clear as of yet and the console will definitely not look anything like the developers kit we’ve seen so far. Next week on the 20th of February, just two days shy of my 48th birthday Sony is hosting an event in New York City where at that time a new version of the famous DualShock controller is making its debut and that in itself should prove interesting news, especially if it is backwards compatible to older Sony consoles.

The controller shown here features a rectangular touchpad located between the standard D-pad and the 4-button setup (Although the rumored share button is not present) and it’s also not clear if the blue light seen atop the controller actually serves a purpose like the receptor for the Move. This should be one of the biggest releases of the year and if Sony plays their cards right they could reposition themselves better against Microsoft’s Xbox that has maintained the sales lead for over 2 consecutive years in a row.  When Sony was asked to deny or confirm some of the speculation about the new controller they declined top provide an answer instead simply saying they do not comment on rumor or speculation. In any case are you a fan of Sony and their line of consoles? Also do you think a new controller is a bad or good idea. Thanks for reading folks, I appreciate your interaction and your opinions matter here on Tech Of Tomorrow so let us hear your voice.
