As if all of the Steam Machine announcements weren’t enough new shiny things from Valve, they’ve now begun registration for people to beta test Steam’s future in-house streaming feature.

This is one of the functions originally discussed as being an option for the Steam Machine, and will also be usable by regular PC’s as well, allowing users to stream games from their personal high performance PC’s to one’s used in living rooms or hooked up to TV’s.

It’s currently unclear how many beta participant’s Valve’s looking to acquire, but the selection method is said to be random and will be picked from those people joining the Steam Community “Steam In-Home Streaming” group.

The groups numbers are rising quickly, and Beta participants will be chosen an enabled this function later this year. If you’re interested make sure to join the group, and let us know your thoughts on this potential service in the comments!

Another feature I won’t be able to use because of shitty 200KB/s internet.

Most of the streaming features will run over the local network. Even 802.11G Wireless could handle it (probably) although would struggle at range.

      Beats my 55KB/s net….

It’s called “IN-HOME” for a reason, your internet connection shouldn’t have anything to do with it, only the local network speed, that could be anything from ~50mbps to ~1Gbps but unlikely to be any lower in this day and age…

The standard is a 500mbps for each network card on newer boards. Now that may change with the router but yeah..
