Intel seems poised to eliminate the need for mechanical drives in all but the most basic of instances as in the near future, meaning 2014 Intel will release their latest and most amazing 2TB 2.5-inch SSD. Just think, of you have the available cash, a newborn child, or spare arm or leg you can grab yourself one of the upon there initial release ☺
I am sure though that with Intel opening the gates on said technology this will eventually lead to affordable for the common man (Or Woman) versions that will wipe out the mechanical hard drive in 9 out of ten situations. SSD technology is quieter, has no moving parts and offers much faster access times, boot times and has almost zero heat.
A leaked Intel roadmap or in other news follow the yellow brick road shows Intel is slated to release these beastly SSDs sometime in the 2nd quarter or Q2, as the industry likes to call it so your wait time is not that long. News was leaked previously that shows Intel is scheduled to release its Fultondale and Pleasantdale lines in 200GB, 400GB, 800GB, 1.6TB, and 2TB capacities.
We have all been waiting for larger capacity SSDs and in today’s we want that yesterday attitude society it has been a long wait indeed and one that will be welcomed by gamers and enthusiasts alike. Intel’s previously released PCIe SSDs were pretty fast, but offered really low capacities and were only good for software RAID.
These new SSDs will called the P3700 and P3500 Series and will be built with 20nm High Endurance Technology (HET) multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory and is server grade technology. The new drives will ship in 2 ways on initial release, PCIe and 2.5-inch form factors depending on your need. Featuring AES 256-bit encryption, 25W power (10W while idle), and a whopping five-year warranty, with the performance up to 2800MB/s sequential read and up to 1700MB/s sequential write, which are some very impressive performance values. With faster performance and larger capacities Intel will be pushing the envelope of SSD boundaries and personally I cannot wait t be able to get my hands on some for some killer builds in 2014.
