The first time I heard that AMD was going to release a near $1,000 CPU, I thought it was a joke that was missed on Aprils Fools day, as AMD usually means budget pricing.

Not so this time though, as AMD latest FX-9590 is priced well within the range of Intel’s Extreme CPUs and said to be competitive in that range as well. The FX-9590 is the first CPU from AMD that actually has the balls to even say it can compete and that in itself is something different as AMD has never before challenged Intel at this level.

AMD FX-9590 Pricing & Availability

I think most AMD fans were highly anticipating this release and while even though most of them could never afford the CPU, they wanted AMD to really make a comeback just for the entire AMD Team spirit. In truth, I would like the same thing as it gets boring always have the pre-empted thought that it’s just another budget CPU. The big thing about this new CPU is its ability to overclock (Turbo Boost) to 5.0GHz, a feat that no other CPU to date as been able to accomplish right out of the box and that is getting a lot of attention both from fans and media alike.

Many people and users though are going to literally freak out when they see how much power has to be run through the FX-9590 to get to that 5.0GHz. The total TDP is 220w and the CPU requires 1.5v in order to achieve this 5.0 GHz boost, which not only requires a certain type of motherboard, but you will also need liquid cooling to even run it safely at all.  So yes the CPU is a one of a kind thing right now, but it also one that has a huge demand for power and motherboard resources that will make it even further out of reach than most users. With CPU price and the cost of the board and adequate cooling you are looking at over $1k in cost.

9590 Unboxing 2

On Monday we ordered the CPU from Newegg and that was also not a simple thing, as they require you to buy close to $1600.00 in parts just to qualify to buy the CPU. Strike one ion my book. So after waiting a mere day the CPU came in the mail and we were able to do an unboxing and first look at the new CPU. Now comes strike 2 as AMD shipped this so-called limited Black Edition in a cheap recycled paper box that reminds me of bargain brands sold at the market. So let me get this right AMD, you charged me (Over Charged Me) just to get the CPU, then you insult me by putting in a cheap box when it should have at least come in a metal tin can like previous generation AMD products.

This so far has been my experience with this AMD FX-9590 and if it does not perform really well I will consider it to be a total rip-off from AMD and really a product to just screw their fans over. Today I did the unboxing and did my rant on my experience so far, but these are superficial things and if the CPU does perform like a bat out of hell I can forgive a few missteps in the packaging. So my friends tell me what you think so far after seeing how the FX-9590 shipped and how much cost is involved to even purchase one. As AMD fans do you feel your company has let you down? Or do you feel this is a really great thing regardless? Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow, where your opinion is appreciated and valued.
