Microsoft vs Google: The Battle Over YouTube App Continues
Even if it's just about something on the internet, war is...
The news I am writing about today has been out for a few days now, but before the cards all get sold out I thought I should write a little something up for the fans. AMD fans are a strong group and one who protect their favorite company, sometimes to the point of plain craziness, but what hell, they love the underdog.
AMD has always been seen as the company to turn to when you needed to build a gaming rig and did not have the cash to hop on the Intel bandwagon. Needless to say there are obviously more people who live on a budget than have money pouring out of their collective ears and this keeps AMD loved.
There latest two products though, be it GPU, or CPU have both had some hefty price tags attached to them as the HD 7990 was coming in at over $800.00 and the FX-9590 was also priced in the similar range at a whopping $900.00. These are not user friendly prices and they put AMD in a totally different market now, one where many of their core fans cannot ever afford.
This is not AMD’s best market position, as traditionally AMD meant solid products with an excellent price point, which was their strong point until now. Just when we were starting to think damn AMD WTF is up? The first of the price drops begins with the HD 7990, and I think many more will follow. It would be very nice to see the FX-9590 drop down to about $600.00, then it would be more reasonably priced than the current arm and leg price attached now.
Until very recently getting your hands on an HD 7990 without being on AMDs “hookup list” would cost you up to $999.99 depending on where and when you purchased the card. Now however in a nice turn of events AMD has lowered the price and I have seen cards go for as low as $649.99 recently. This is a very significant drop in pricing and most likely has something to do with the announcement of the new “Hawaii” GPU that will be officially announced on September 25th 2013.
I hope and feel this is the beginning of a trend for AMD until they get some new GPU blood on the table as an upgrade to the 7000 series is long overdue in my opinion. Now however is the time to buy an HD 7990 as they are going to become EOL (End Of Life) and you can get then now by all the vendors at a much lower price tag than previously possible. Thanks for reading Tech Of Tomorrow my peeps. So are you interested in buying one of these bad boys yourself, or is the price still too far out of reach? Let us all know what you think; I have heard rumors of a lot of different issues plaguing the HD 7990, but the user experience varies and many folks must be satisfied.
