For those who are looking to get into the new AMD line we have just unboxed and taken a look at the new ASUS Direct CU II R9 270X, the replacement for the HD 7870 card in the AMD lineup.
Like usual ASUS has gone above and beyond and manufactured a card based on a totally non-reference design and featuring their Direct Copper connection to the GPU allowing better heat dissipation along with many of the other things you have come to enjoy about ASUS cards.
Direct CU II means there are 2 fans as you can se in the video and most fans know this, but for those in the new, there you go. Digi+VRM as well as Super Alloy Power allow the card to run with decreased electrical noise ASUS claims up to 30%, and by improved power conditioning and high quality parts the card should have a lifespan 2.5 times that of a reference card. ASUS also has very fine tuned fan control that will automatically adjust the fan speed according to the cards need, so if you are overclocking and the card is getting hot, the fans will spin faster and if the card is running cool the will run slower.
Unlike a reference card the ASUS rear I/O offers dual DVI connections a DVI-I, and DVI-D as well as standard display port (AMD reference has 2 Mini DP connections) and a standard HDMI connection. ASUS also has their own proprietary overclocking and monitoring suite called GPU TWEAK that offers an excellent and easy to navigate and use GUI many users swear by.
The card has dual six-pin power connections and comes with a Molex to six-pin power converter cable, as well as all the necessary drivers. The card is off to the testing phase now, but everything you need to get up and going is included in the box except your PC J. So what do you folk’s thing so far, look interesting? Are you and AMD fan awaiting the test results, if so let us know what you want to see it tested against first in our mini poll down below.
