HTC One Successor Dropping This March?
HTC One successor dropping this March? In February of last year, HTC...
Some leaks are really fun to see, especially when they shed light on something cool we all have ben anticipating. With that said, Intel has had yet another leak on their leaky ship and this time its on the high end side of things.
The leak shows things that are still a few years down the road, but gives us an idea of what Intel’s plans on for the future. We are still awaiting the Broadwell platform, but beyond that is Skylake the successor to the yet to be replaced Xeon platform.
We are currently are at the 22nm process, but Skylake will be the debut of the 14 nanometer process. This new CPU will also be made on a first of its kind manufacturing process when it introduces Intel’s 9th generation Intel HD IGP.
Another cool factoid is that it will also be the first platform to support dual-channel DDR4 memory, not DDR4 as that will launch with Haswell-E, but actual dual-channel DDR4. All this new technology will make things even faster in the near future.
In addition to DDR4, Skylake will also debut PCIe 4.0, which is said to essentially double the bandwidth that is offered in today’s 3.0 standard. Does this also mean we will see even faster video card solutions from AMD and NVIDIA? If so that would be awesome as the graphics cards can always use the extra bandwidth and kick up those framerates.
The thing is though, will those same features trickle down to the desktop level or only remain in the extreme high-end of the spectrum, as Xeon’s and their components are much higher in price than desktop products. Plus Xeon’s are not even geared for the gamer so we will just have to wait and see.
So far so good though right? Well if those things were not enough the new Skylake will also bring SATA Express that will boost the maximum bandwidth to about 16GB/s that exceeds todays standard by as much as 2.5 times. Let us just hope that as the motherboard and chipset gets an update that our peripherals like the SSD will also follow and evolve to match the new standards.
The slide that was leaked does not show and exact dates as to be expected, but it does seem as if Intel will have this on the shelves sometime in 2015. The future looks good on paper and if technology keeps advancing it looks like we will have some exciting things to look forward to. Thanks for reading Tech of Tomorrow where your thoughts and opinions make a difference. Does the new Skylake look interesting to you? Or do you think its just more hype in the road to advanced technology?
