Lighting strikes again as the MSI GTX 780 takes on the Titan.

MSI is at it once again and this time we see them bringing forth to the table yet another card in their “Lighting” series of video cards.

The Lighting is the top dog of the MSI lineup and offers’ the best in cooling, overclocking and features.  Featuring MSI’s very own “Triple Force Architecture”, a dual BIOS, overclocked specifications, and a 20-phase (16+3+1) power design the card is ready in case you want to increase those clockspeeds even further. It also features MSI’s Military Class 4 components that are a moniker for using the best possible components in the make up of the card.

Based off of NVIDIA’s GK110-300-A2 GPU with 2,304 CUDA cores, 192 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. MSI bumped the GPU to 980MHz stock and 1,033MHz boost, up from 863MHz and 900MHz, respectively, from Nvidia’s reference design. The 3GB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1,502MHz (6GHz effective) on a 384-bit bus.

Though the card comes directly out of the box in an overclocked state does not mean the overclocking has to stop there as it was made for custom setting, including voltage and clock speed increases. GPU Boost 2.0 relies solely on how well a card can maintain a temperature variance and the cooler the card the better the overall boost.

We just built a system using the little brother to this card the Gaming Edition that matches their motherboard in the same product line. One thing that I know some people are going to scoff at is the price as the Lighting strikes back with a hefty MSRP of $750.00, therefore making it thee most expensive GTX 780 currently on the market. There is a catch though; this card is rumored to be almost as fast as a $1000.00 Titan card, making it also the fastest GTX 780 as well as the priciest.

I am going to have to bug MSI to let us see one of those as it just sounds way to interesting to not bring to you folks. Let us know in the comments below if you would like to see a review of this card on Tech Of Tomorrow leave a comment below with the hash tag #Giveusthecardmark and we will bug them until they cannot refuse us. #Giveusthecardmark or you will fucking die /That’s what Skrillex said

  • noob101

im kind of a noob but what does this mean exactly: The 3GB of GDDR5 memory runs at 1,502MHz (6GHz effective) on a 384-bit bus.

more precisely what does the ’6GHz effective’ mean :P

Am i the only one who thinks it looks ugly?

    • Fire Physics

      No…

    • Mohammed Al-Ameri

      Yes

    • Eric Bishton

I’m just so happy that it isn’t fucking black and red that I don’t even care.

It’s not horribly unattractive, though. There are better-looking cards, for sure, but I’ve definitely seen worse. For example, every black and red GPU ever.

      • Vegard

Was I the only one who read Eric Bitchton :3 Joking

    • Brad

      Not ugly, just not exciting-looking

    • Jeremiah Yong

I think it looks like a awesome bee/wasp

  • Rafael Carbajal

    #Giveusthecardmark

    • Nick

to an ugly faggot like you ? LoL nope

  • is this true

i don’t understand is this one better than nvidia 780

    • Kevin Mahoney

      This is the Nvidia 780.

      • Sean Smith

Yes, but not the Nvidia reference model. This is MSI’s Nvidia 780.

    • CatDealer89

Its made by nvidia, the technology parts are sold to MSI and MSI tweaks the design slightly.

    • Jeremiah Yong

yes it is better than the factory geforce780

  • Uncle Sam

We need a Titan Lightning. msi pls

    • bill clinton

Nvidia doesnt want them to change anything doe their titan.

      • bill clinton

        *to

  • Julio

    #Giveusthecardmark sounds freaking awesome

  • Jeffee

I’d like to see how far this card can overclock. So far all i’ve seen is it is LN2 ready but other than that people clock it to the same as a Directcu II 780 @ 1100Mhz core and 1652 (6608) memory.

    • Ian McConvey

PFFFFT my Galaxy HOF edition does that stock… I run it 1293mhz stable in all games and 1330mhz for benchmarks.

  • Fiberton

Would like to see the benches of it.

  • yolo swag

theres a typo, he said lighting not lightning

    • Matthew Caudill

should be “lightening” ? hmm that word is spelled so many different ways.. lol hard to say which it was meant to be

  • Patrick Hamhuis

    Sounds amazing #Giveusthecardmark

  • Ian McConvey

Mine is on its way. Lol. Owned.

  • Reidar Garthus

    Review and giveaway plz! ;D

  • Matthew Caudill

You best believe we want a review on that one! Although, the designer of the asthetics musta’ done it on a Monday after a long weekend of drinking/partying… Thumbs down on looks…everything else looks killer… I must also admit, given what this card is supposed to be, I could over look the cosmetics as it doesn’t impact performance.. ;) The thing is, most people are going to rip that off anyways and throw some kind of custom loop on it to max it out and keep’er cool…

  • Sean Smith

Ha! I stopped by the MSI YouTube page and pretty much begged for one. I told them I would do reviews, and post them all over the internet. They did not reply.

  • Maarten

they had to make it red or full black

  • SamDaMan

Uhm…I still think the HOF is gonna be faster… you know… higher clock and all for $80 less…

  • Julien Hardrick

No this Card ist verry cool

  • Soroosh

This is the fastest 780 out there and MSi couldnt have impressed me anymore. as soon as it gets price drop im buying it. the color scheme is absolutely gorgeous. I love it. those two array of blue LED’s in the back, the yellow fan in the middle, and pulsating Lightning logo on the side is itself worth $750 :)

  • Joao611

I’ve already read on another website it is faster than the Titan. Seems very promising! :)

  • Joel Sierra

I want to give them my money now!!!!!!

  • Josh Peet

#Giveusthecardmark just paint the card with enamel model paint. paint don’t bother me. What ever happen to the 9590fx benchmarks or was it that a horrible story. sorry to go off subject.
