Apple iPhone 5S Event Confirmed for September 10th?
As of this morning there have been a number
...
It’s no rumor and in fact AMD has actually just added two more FX chips to their processor lineup, the new quad-core FX-4350 and the six-core FX-6350. These are both new additions to the Piledriver architecture and they feature the latest instruction sets, including FMA3 and AVX, but the best thing is they will work in existing AM3 socket motherboards using that latest available BIOS. This is great news for folks who are happy with their motherboard and may have previously opted for a lower end CPU that they would now like to upgrade and not have to suffer the cost of a new board just to upgrade.
Bring two new CPUs in, exit two older ones, so say goodbye to the fledging FX-4300 and FX-6300 processors, which will now be replaced with faster, but less energy efficient products. One good thing of note though, is that both new parts come clocked in at 400MHz faster than their predecessors, but you have to deal with 30 more watts of TDP to achieve this, which may lead to hotter running cores. Another point of interest, is that both CPUs run at the same clock speed of 3.9GHz and have a max Turbo speed of 4.3 and 4.2 respectively. AMD is going two directions at once and it will be interesting to see how it pans out upon release.
There are a few more areas to cheer about, the first of which being that the FX-4350 has double the amount of L3 cache than the chip it is replacing and the really big news is the price as they will both maintain the same price as the FX-4300 and FX-6300. This means you will be able to get your hands on the new FX-4350 for $122.00 and the FX-6350 at just $132.00, give or take a buck or so depending on who sells it. Tech site X-Bit labs reports that the new chips have been on sale for over a month now, but are just now actually hitting the shelves with actual stock of the product. For those on a budget this is all good news.
Everyone knows that although AMD has been able to keep up with Intel as far as actual clock speeds go, in the performance area they have been challenged at every level, and in recent years have started to lose more and more ground to Intel. This explains why even though AMD is keeping up with core speeds they have to sell them at a lower price to compete with Intel’s Ivy Bridge series of chips. For many people though, the underdog is always the best bet for the buck, and if you are looking for good solid CPU at a very decent price these new CPUs will help keep AMD in the races for a bit longer. Are you and AMD fan? If so what does this mean to you? Is AMD still keeping you satisfied with their product, or do you feel they need to get even more competitive to really satisfy your performance needs?
