While everyone is super on the tails of the AMD R9 290X there is also another player entering the game that may just spark your interest even further. For those still wanting massive power, but still want to save even more cash AMD has also introduced the new R9 290, minus the X and with a cost that is $100.00 less as well, which will be very appealing to may an AMD fan and gamers alike. The performance seen so far seems to be highly impressive and that will bode very well for AMD this holiday season.
Powecolor today announced their latest version into the game the all-new Powercolor R9 290 OC card. This card is nothing spectacular as it is still based on AMD reference design so now grand standing coolers or fancy colors just the card in its basic glory. The card features a base frequency of 975MHz, up a bit from 947MHz, and 4GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1250MHz (5000MHz effective) using a 512-bit memory bus. The card is called the overclock version so hopefully it will offer better overclocking options than its hotter big brother the almighty R9 290X.
Although I am sure others will be releasing a whole new breed of aftermarket cooled cards Powercolor has stuck to the basic AMD design on this one and that can be okay as long as the card does not run extremely hot. All the standard features are here though, DirectX 11.2, 4K video support as well as all the normal things associated with an AMD card. The connectivity of the card is essentially the same as well sporting 2X Dual-link DVI ports and HDMI port and a standard display port, that is something not usually found on AMD products, as they like to use mini-DP connections. AMD fans have once again gotten something to be happy about and Santa is bringing it this holiday season. Hopefully we will see the really cool and uniquely cooled cards very soon, peace.
