Chinese Hackers: Attacks against Online Journalism
In America when we think of hackers we usually associate the image as someone who is bearded, young and usually a social misfit albeit in many cases a loving one. The real corporate hacker is an altogether different animal though and one that can be a very dangerous and threatening menace on our society, and although I think that many hackers despise being even remotely mentioned in the same breath as the former kind most people do not even know the difference. I have many friends who consider themselves hackers and these people never break any laws other than pirating a few games for their kids, but these are not the sophisticated and organized hacker type’s you ever need to worry about as they truly are in real life harmless and very nonthreatening in all ways.
The Hacker type that has become the bug up many a corporate ass is the type that has organization and a sophisticated method upon how they do things. When you get group of people together with a goal of breaking down security protocols in an effort to undermine a corporation by digital methods this is organized crime, only instead of a gangster as the face we get a bunch of students and geeks that in no way resemble the Mobsters of old. China as of late has been caught many times trying to be sneaky and hack into whatever they can, which makes me think one word: Agenda. The Hacks that have been happening lately have caught the attention of the US government and many businessmen who see this as the next big threat. Books have even been written and published calling this New Age bunch of hackers and what they are doing as Prolific.
When you see things like The Washington Post getting attacked by Chinese hackers you have to really think just what the hell are these folks up to. Here is the thing though; all they are really doing is creating more paranoia on a field that is already plagued by more hype and propaganda than most can swallow. Things like this will never bode well for those taking such action because the US Of A when it gets paranoid and aware of you tends to stick a stethoscope up your rear end until they are satisfied that you are no longer a threat. If some Country thinks that they are going to pull a Bane move like in Batman and take over Wall Street or our Government you are obviously living in a movie world of your own creation. The only thing corporate hackers do is create a mess and make the harmless home types a target for speculation and question while also being a catalyst for corporate paranoia.
Another thing that happens with this type of situation is bad feelings all around as the American people will tend to not think well of a Country a Hackers and this can hurt relations of American born and raised Chinese who get caught in the fallout of such a situation and are innocent bystanders just like the rest of us. My hopes and prayers are that this situation does not escalate any further as an America that is full of fear and doubt is not a happy place. I tried to keep this article light, but in truth things like this can lead to war and that is not a light subject. China if you are reading this, please stop doing annoying things to rouse the giant because when he wakes up he is angry and not the best at social niceties. I usually stay away from anything political, but this hacking situation has gone from back street news to the headlines and the trend seems to be continuing which is not good news in any way shape of form. A little spark can make a forest fire if not put out quickly. I hope our tech brothers and sisters in China don’t let their government turn them into the pawns of the next World War.
