The Samsung Galaxy S4 was announced last March and a refresh is inevitable. And definitely imminent. A smartphone with a model number SM-G90A has been brought up by evleaks in the past month. Evleaks revealed to us that AT&T might be putting this high-end flagship to the test.

The SM-G90A is listed in the User Agent Profile document. Previous rumors theorized that the incoming Samsung flagship device would run at a resolution of 2560×1440, which is a full 2.5K resolution, notably past 1080p. Interestingly enough, the screen of the G90A is listed at “just” 1920×1080.

This find may prove the rumor that the high-end Android phone will have two variants: one coated with aluminum and the other dressed in plastic. Before, we thought the variants would have the same specs, but just different materials for the build. And while we were pretty sure, the SM-G90A indeed was the Galaxy S5; it could be something else entirely. This could a cheaper variant of the S5 geared at emerging markets or could be a member of the incoming, but not yet released, J-series of devices.

The Galaxy S5 is likely to be released this April, with an announcement at Mobile World Congress next month or an exclusive Samsung event. Specs-wise, SamMobile has previously said the S5 will feature a metal body, alongside a plastic variant, a 2K (2560×1440) AMOLED screen, a 16-megapixel camera, and a Samsung-made Exynos 6 CPU for international markets and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 for the U.S. All of this high-end hardware would be running on a revamped Samsung Touchwiz interface based off of Android 4.4.2, KitKat.

Samsung has also stated that there wasn’t too much of a difference between the Galaxy S III and the S4, in the public’s eye. Samsung executive Lee Young Hee told Bloomberg that the S5 will “go back the basics.” Maybe this means Samsung will focus more on essential features rather than gimmicks software tricks that few find practical use in. Lee also stated the Galaxy S5 will be “mostly about the display and the feel of the cover.” And like the Note 3 before it, the S5 will be released with a new version of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch (and maybe a better commercial to go with it!) Other leaks say the S5 will integrate an eye-scanner for security innovations.

Whatever the Galaxy S5 ends up being, it sure looks exciting. So Android fans, get ready.

I really see no point in the resolution going higher. Put that money into a bigger battery.

they’ll have to invest in a bigger battery otherwise powering a big screen resolution will drain the battery in a second

      • TechHog

No kidding. I see no positives to this whatsoever. But of course sheep will say it’s good and call 1080p 5-inch screens super pixelated.

          i agree entierly!

Just get an S4 if thats what your looking for technology upgrade every year

I’m all for improving technology, but in this case it would just be a checklist spec

lol 720p is more than enough. these phones with large resolutions barely last. and the sheepy consumers get sucked into reviews and adverts.

I have a 720p 5.5″ screen and unless i cram the phone in my eye like an over sized monocle, i can’t see pixels at any reasonable real world distance. I also dont ‘feed’ 4 times the pixels that dont benefit me at all. long live the Note 2!
