HTC One successor dropping this March?
In February of last year, HTC delivered the HTC One. The One was HTC’s “Hail Mary,” and turned out to be my personal favorite smartphone of 2013. It’s been almost a year since then, so rumors of a successor are red-hot.
A source communicating to Bloomberg, states that HTC is aiming for a late March launch for the successor for the One. It is rumored the “One Two” (please don’t call it that HTC), will feature a display that measures “at least five inches.” It is most likely the device will house a “later Snapdragon processor” from Qualcomm. The design language for the successor is expected to stay close to the One design, aluminum body and all. Software-wise, the piece of gadgetry is expected to run Android 4.4.2 KitKat paired with HTC’s domestic skin, Sense 6.
While the HTC One was a fantastic smartphone, the camera did not impress me all that much. One of the biggest changes from the One to its successor may be found on the back of the device. Perpetually, HTC’s next device will tout an upgraded variant of its UltraPixel rear camera with two sensors that will aim to offer a better depth of field, enhanced image quality, and improved focusing technology. HTC uses cameras in their smartphones as a way to set their products apart from other phones, as we’ve seen proven with HTC’s Zoe software, and something groundbreaking regarding cameras, may be highlighted in the One’s successor.
A leaked case for the M8, the codename for the device, proposes it will sport a fingerprint scanner. We’ve seen HTC dip their feet in fingerprint readers with the HTC One Max last year, so it wouldn’t be out of the question that HTC would add this sensor to its next device. However, the sensor of the One Max was placed awkwardly on the back and required a swipe and rather than simply unlocking the phone, it was designed to be integrated to be used with applications. Hopefully, HTC will refine its sensor to make it more practical this time.
What do you guys think about this speculation of HTC’s next phone? Does it sound like HTC may earn a place in your pocket this year?
