Ok Google, raise the temperature to 78 degrees.

Google’s been picking up more and more companies to add to their growing empire of technology, with the most recent acquisition being Nest Labs for the tune of 3.2 Billion dollars.

Nest Labs is the company responsible for both the Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect, technologies for the home focused on improving comfortability.

Nest Thermostat learns and predicts it’s users favorite temperatures and maintains your household at that level, whereas Nest Protect is a form of smoke alarm which gives warns and gives you the chance to stop it before calling a false alarm due to regular household activities that can lead to smoke such as cooking.

No news has come just yet as to what Google plans to do with this acquisition, and Nest Labs maintains that there will be little to no noticeable change including no changing of the current leadership structure, or design philosophy with continued app support for both iOS and Android despite now being Google owned. The sale will be closed within the next few months, and it’ll be interesting to see just what Google has in mind to do with this rather large purchase.
