Did you grow up playing a lot of the Final Fantasy series on console, only to move over to being a PC gamer and have that be one of the few franchises you miss? Well the future of the series may begin to find a new home on PC according to series producer Yoshinori Kitase in a recent interview with Eurogamer.
While some Final Fantasy title’s have been available on PC (ports of 7,8, and the MMO titles), the majority have been fairly faithful to being console exclusives, however even FFXIII was designed originally on PC’s before being ported, with a final decision leading to it never seeing an official PC release.
With the recent success of the FF7 and FF8 ports being made available on Steam, Square-Enix has begun to reconsider their stance on the platform. “It’s an early stage for us,” Kitase said. “We haven’t got an awful lot of experience in this field. So when we have more know-how and experience in this market, we would be very interested.” Final Fantasy XIII’s mini trilogy just recently concluded with the release of Lightning Returns, so the next core game in the series that may receive PC treatment is the much anticipated XV (formerly Versus XIII) which is currently scheduled for both an Xbox One and PS4 release on an as of yet known date.
