GIGABYTE today announced the launch of a new ultra compact PC design, the GIGABYTE BRIX gaming. Packed inside this tiny little box (59.6mm x 115.4mm x 128mm) is an AMD A8-5557M APU with an AMD Radeon R9 M275X discrete GPU and 2GB of GDDR5 RAM. It’s designed to also accommodate either a mSATA SSD or a standard 2.5” SATA hard drive.

“The BRIX Gaming offers a real desktop PC experience in a compact form factor that end users now expect from a GIGABYTE BRIX device,” said Henry Kao, VP of GIGABYTE’s motherboard business unit.“We’re very excited about the continuing evolution of the desktop PC, challenging the notion that smaller PC design means abandoning performance.”

Portwise the BRIX gaming has 4 USB 3.0 ports, Headphone port, supports HDMI and mini Displayport, and LAN plugin for internet. Inside is also a Mini PCIe module offering 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wifi and Bluetooth 4.0. It’ll also be coming bundled with a VESA bracket, so those TV’s and monitors that support it can discreetly hide the BRIX gaming behind them, creating a neat and organized gaming/workspace. For more detailed info you can check out the BRIX gaming product page on the GIGABYTE website here.

Seems nice. I think this “Brix” is faster than my Mac OSX + Intel Laptop + AMD 6-core combined? No I don’t think so :p

The only problem is its using Richland APU which is 2 generations back and its not allowing for the 2133 RAM which these APU’s need to run peoperly or its not going to be powerful enough to run the latest FPS games.
