Overclocking the GTX 780

Due to the fact that the card has reference cooling, that is just fine for standard operation, but when it comes to professional overclocking rarely is an air cooler used because of its limitations.

With a simple 100MHz overclock using the EVGA precision tuner, we were able to add a consistent 3-5 FPS extra in virtually every game tested on the GTX 780 with the temps only rising 2C, from 78C to 80C while overclocked.

The GTX 780 3DMark Firestrike Extreme Graphics score also rose from 4479 to 4836 and also increased the OpenCL performance from 1125 KRays/sec to 1329 KRays/sec when testing in LuxMark 2.0.

Better results could be obtained with more time, but for an out of box experience it is not bad at all. We should be getting a liquid cooler from our friends at Swiftech and then we will really see how the GeForce GTX 780 overclocks.
